Justyn Cox Scores Pair of Top-15 Finishes With the World of Outlaws

PETERSEN MEDIA: Though Top-15’s are not a big stat most strive for, Justyn Cox was very pleased with the weekend he had with the World of Outlaws in Calistoga, CA as he picked up a pair of Top 15 finishes.

“It was the best weekend we have had with the World of Outlaws so far, and it’s pretty cool that it happened at the half-mile,” Cox said.

Timing in 20th fastest on Saturday night at the scenic Calistoga Speedway, Cox was able to pick up a fifth place finish in heat race action, and successfully move his Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/PM Truck Repair backed No. 31c machine into the feature event.

Lining up for the feature event in the 10th row, Cox did not get the jump he was looking for to start the race, and slipped back to 25th in the running order. Settling in, Cox was able to get into a grove, and begin working his way forward, as he worked his way toward the Top-10.

With a couple of double-file restarts shuffling things up at times, Cox would use the low side of the speedway to his advantage as he picked off drivers like Carson Macedo, Jason Meyers, and Kraig Kinser as he rallied to finish in the 12th spot.

“Saturday night was a huge confidence boost for me,” Cox said. “I really enjoy ½ mile tracks, and with our car being really good, it felt like everything came together.”

An early start time saw a very dry track early in the night, and Cox took advantage of a low pill draw, as he would time his machine in 11th quick.

Starting second in his heat race, Cox would slip back to the fourth spot as Joey Saldana and Rico Abreu were able to get past him, but he would again move into the feature event.

Lining up 12th in the feature event, Cox and his team were planning on rubber playing a factor in the race, so made adjustments accordingly. With the track staying pretty good during the feature, Cox would slip back to the 15th spot over the course of the race, as he then would battle with Cody Darrah for the 14th position.

Getting into 14th, Cox would slip back to 15th on the last lap, as he closed his weekend with a 15th place finish.

“Sunday night, we though it was going to take rubber, so we geared up for that, and it just did not happen, and our finish suffered because of it,” Cox said. “Overall a really good weekend for us. I have to thank Little Rod, Dan, Eric, Kyle, and grandfather, and my dad for all of their support and hardwork.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, PM Truck Repair, LRB, JRI Shocks, Konnected, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, JRD Endeavors, VSR, ART, Axcel Race Suits, SafRacer.Com, K&N Performance, Justice Brothers, Cheetah IV Racing, E-ST Garage, Worton Designs, Manzer Motorsports,  and Tim’s Hot Rod Shop for their support in 2015!

2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-12, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-1

ON TAP: Cox will be back racing Saturday night as his team heads to the Placerville Speedway in Placerville, CA.
