PETERSEN MEDIA: Closing his 2019 season out over the weekend at Stockton Dirt Track with Doug Rutz, Justyn Cox would pick up a second place finish on Friday night, before engine issues derailed him on Saturday night as he again was putting another very good night together.

“Friday night was really good,” Justyn Cox said. “We had a really smooth, trouble free night and we were really good. Shane Golobic was simply better and really was the class of the field.”

Timing the Rutz Racing No. 8R machine in third fastest in qualifying time trials, Cox would race his way to a third place finish in heat race competition.

Earning a spot in the Dash, the Clarksburg, CA driver would pick up a third place finish and line up in the second row of the 30-lap feature event. Settling into third in the early going of the feature event, Cox set his sights on second running Shane Golobic and early leader Mitchell Faccinto.

On the hooked up and hauling Stockton Dirt Track surface, lap traffic came into the equation quick and it allowed for the top three to close in amongst each other.

Able to get into second just before the race’s halfway point, Cox would then have the daunting task of chasing after Golobic who was setting a torrid pace out front.

Closing in on Golobic at times during the closing laps of the feature, Cox would have nothing for the leader as he would take his second place finish on Friday night and turn his attention to Saturday’s SCCT finale.

Continuing to have speed in the Rutz Racing entry, Cox would get off to a nice start on Saturday night and earn quick time honors in his qualifying group.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Cox would finish in the fourth position and it would be good enough to earn a spot in the Dash, but things would not go as planned.

Noticing something amiss under the hood of his car at the conclusion of the heat, the Rutz team would go to work in the pits looking to find the issue and make repairs. Unfortunately the issue would be terminal and the night would come to an end for Cox and company.

“Saturday night we had another really good night going, but issues ended our  night after our heat,” Cox said. “Doug Rutz and Jim Richmond did so much for me this year as well as Rodney Tiner, Jr. I can’t thank all these guys enough for what they did me this yea; we had a ton of fun.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Michael David Winery, Five Window Beer Company, MDW Sports, Cranked Naturals, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, VSR, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2019!
