PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting off to a slow start on Saturday night with the King of the West Series in Placerville, CA, Justyn Cox and his Cox Family Racing team wouldn’t give up as Cox worked his way forward to finish in the sixth spot.

“We got off to a pretty slow start on Saturday night, but my guys stuck with me and I cut down the mistakes in the feature event and we had a pretty good showing,” Cox said. “The end of the race got a little messy with a crash in front of us and we ended up sixth.”

Timing the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex No. 31c machine in 13th quickest in time trials, Cox would just narrowly miss out on the heat race inversion. Finishing fifth in his heat, the Clarksburg, CA driver would grid the field from the 13th starting spot.

On an extremely slick Placerville Speedway, Cox showed he had a pretty good car early in the race as he had worked his way up to the seventh spot when the race’s first caution waived on the 11th lap.

Stuck in the outside lane for the double file restart, Cox would lose a few positions as the field got spread back out and found himself back in the 10th spot. Running back in 10th when the red flag few on the 15th lap, Cox’s team took advantage of the “open red” situation and got Cox’s entry a little bit better for the last ½ of the race.

Working the bottom of the speedway, Cox would get back up into the sixth spot as he chased after Bud Kaeding and Kyle Hirst. On the last lap of the race, Cox was able to work up into the Top-Five, but with a car wrecking at the stripe, officials would revert back and score drivers where they ran on the 29th lap, and Cox would finish in the sixth spot.

“I really want to thank my guys for their continued support and hard work,” Cox said. “We had a good car in the feature, and they made some great adjustments during an open red. We are getting better with our 410ci program and hopefully we can continue it through the rest of the year.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, LRB, Konnected, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, JRD Endeavors, VSR, ART, K&N Performance, Justice Brothers, Cheetah IV Racing, E-ST Garage, Worton Designs, Manzer Motorsports, Swimming Pool Perfections, and Tim’s Hot Rod Shop for their support in 2016!

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-33, Wins-1, Top 5’s-6, Top 10’s-15
