PETERSEN MEDIA: Aside from competing with the Russell Motorsports No. 14r during the 2014 season, Placerville, CA driver, Andy Gregg also competed aboard the GUTS Racing/Miller Fortune/Poor’s Equipment Repair No. 53 machine in various 410ci events.
“We had a really consistent year in the 53 car,” Gregg said. “We ran at the Silver Dollar Speedway pretty much weekly, and had some awesome runs. Even missing a week of action we still ended up finishing sixth in points.”
The one week Gregg did miss? He and his team were in Knoxville, IA competing in Gregg’s first ever Knoxville Nationals.
“Knoxville was a great experience,” Gregg noted. “I have been fortunate to have some great help over the years, and I really have to thank the guys who made the trip with me, and the people who aided our team in getting back there.”
Putting himself in a great position by way of his 10th quick qualifying effort at the biggest race in the country, Gregg ended up with a 15th place finish in the C Main, earning himself Rookie of the Year Honors
“We don’t get much time on big tracks in California, so to go there for our first time and qualify well, and make the C Main of the Knoxville Nationals, we were all really excited and happy,” he added.
Aside from Knoxville, Gregg was in action aboard his No. 53 machine a total of 19 times, picking up six top-five finishes going along with six top-ten finishes.
“We were really consistent in the 53 car, and I just have to, again, thank all of the great people for all of their help and support in 2014. This is a team sport, and I have been fortunate to surround myself with great people over the years.”
As Gregg now enjoys some downtime, he will wait for schedules to be released after the upcoming promoters workshops before he decides on a plan in 2015.
