Kyle Hirst Captures Wine Country Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA- The old saying goes that it is better to be lucky than good any day. For Kyle Hirst, he was both good, and lucky on Saturday night as he picked up his third career win at the Calistoga Speedway with the King of the West Series.

“We had a really good car all night long, and we were fortunate to be in the right place at the right time to take advantage of Rico’s bad luck,” Kyle Hirst said.

Checking in at the Calistoga Speedway on Saturday night for the Wine Country Classic, Hirst would time the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/3H Cattle No. 83jr machine in fifth fastest in qualifying time trials.

From the second row of his heat race, KH would finish in the fourth spot before picking up a win in the dash, lining up on the front row for the 25-lap feature event.

When the Ed Entz green flagged waived, it was Hirst getting the jump getting into turn 1 as he went to the cushion, but he would see Rico Abreu chose the bottom side of the speedway, and get the lead exiting turn two.

In the second spot, Hirst would have his hands full with a pair of young guns, as he continued to work the Calistoga Speedway cushion. Fending off Dominic Scelzi and Carson Macedo, Hirst would make some veteran moves to remain in the second spot, and keep his sights set on the race lead.

In the closing laps, Hirst would see the race leaders have issues with just two laps to go in the race, and he would find himself in the race lead. As the race restarted, Hirst would get off to a nice jump, though Jonathan Allard would be there to pressure him.

Coming to the flag stand, Hirst would fend off Allard and pick up the big win at the historic half-mile.

“Calistoga is such a prestigious place, and it is great to grab another win at the ½ mile,” Hirst added. “Dennis and Theresa Roth have been so great to me over the last few years, and it is great to grab another win for them.”

Friday night, Hirst and company were also in action at the Ocean Speedway with the King of the West Series, and Hirst had his share of troubles.

After timing in 12th fastest, Hirst would finish in the second spot in his heat race, putting the Mobil1/FK Rod Ends/Weld Wheels backed machine in the sixth lap for the 30-lap feature event.

From his mid pack starting position, Hirst struggled to get moving, as he fought for a Top-10 spot. Coming in contact with competitors on a pair of occasions, the second time resulted in Hirst getting a flat left rear tire on the 24th lap, and we would pull of the speedway, and head to the pit area.

The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, 3H Cattle,  Mobil1, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, KW Suspension, and Astro Titanium for their support in 2015.
