PETERSEN MEDIA- Climbing back aboard the C&M Motorsports entry for the Wednesday and Thursday 360ci shows during the 66thAnnual Gold Cup Race of Champions, Kyle Hirst would rally from last in the ‘B’ to finish 12thin the Wednesday night ‘A’, before capping the week with a fifth place finish on Thursday.

“I have to thank Cody and Mandi for the chance to race at what is my home track now,” Kyle Hirst said. “We had some issues on Wednesday night, and I just have to thank everyone who came over and helped us thrash and get us into the ‘A’.”

Wednesday night got off to a great start for Hirst and company as the Paradise, CA driver time the Moorefield Construction, Inc./PT Shocks/Swartz Diesel Alturas Tires backed No. 7c entry in third fastest in his time trial group.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Hirst would jump out to the lead and quickly pulled out to a sizeable lead, but would slow in the infield and the race would be on in the pit area.

Thrashing, and trouble shooting through heat races and the ‘C’, C&M Motorsports would just narrowly make the call for the semi where he would end up starting last on the grid after reporting so late and giving up his front row starting spot.

Putting on a show from the semi, Hirst would bob and weave his way around the ¼ mile oval as he would get up to the fourth and final transfer position and make his way into the 30-lap feature event.

Gridding the field from last in the ‘A’, a very racy surface would see Hirst continue to work his way forward. Inching towards the Top-10, KH would get up to 12thby the time the checkered flag flew.

Returning to the track on Thursday night, slick conditions would greet the field on this night and Hirst would again time in well as he would end up fifth on the speed chart.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Hirst would give chase to young Kyle Offill and Shane Hopkins who duked it out in front of him. Getting by Hopkins late, Hirst’s second place finish moved him into the feature event where he would roll off the starting grid from 10th.

On a very slick surface, tire’s would be an issue as the 40-lap race would actually be shortened to 30-laps with rubber going down.

Making some quick moves early, Hirst would jump to eighth on the first lap, and had worked his way up to fifth by the ninth circuit. Looking very good, rubber would start to go down on the speedway and passing would slow up. Getting pushed back to sixth for a few laps after the race’s halfway point, Hirst would work back up to fifth with five laps to go, and close his Gold Cup out with a fifth place finish.

“Really happy I was able to get back in the No. 7c car again, and again cannot thanks Cody and Mandi enough for continuing to field a car and support all of these races,” Hirst said.

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Moorefield Construction, Inc., PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, Alturas Tires, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
