Kyle Hirst Sixth at Johnny Key Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting in one final race before a stretch with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series, Kyle Hirst and Roth Motorsports made the trip to Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA where Hirst would pick up a sixth place finish with the Civil War Series during the 58th Annual Johnny Key Classic.

“It was a good night for our team, and I can’t thank Cori and Mikey enough for all their hard work,” Kyle Hirst said. “We kind of qualified right where we didn’t want to be and we ended up missing the Dash and having to start behind those eight cars. We were able to make up some ground, and some good battles and ended up sixth.”

With 38 cars packed in for the prestigious race, Hirst would be the first car out for time trials and his time would hold up pretty well as he ended up fifth fastest aboard the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/Roth Investments backed No. 83 entry.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, a hooked up Ocean Speedway early in the night would prove to be tough to pass on as ‘KH’ finished in the third position. Needing some help to make the Dash, Hirst and crew would look on intently during the next three races but would ultimately find themselves outside of the Dash.

Following a couple of B Mains and the Dash, a quick rework of the track saw the team head onto the ¼ mile for the 50-lap feature event. Battling with the likes of Colby Johnson, Brad Furr, Shane Golobic and Bud Kaeding, Hirst would work in the lead pack all race long but couldn’t quite find the opening to get inside the Top-Five.

Making changes to a broken shock under the open red, Hirst would continue to hold his own inside the Top-10 as he would go on to close his night out with a sixth place finish as he now readies for a host of races against the World of Outlaws as the series makes its annual late summer trip to the West Coast.

“Huge thanks to Dennis and Teresa Roth for continuing to let us run all over the state and take on the best there is around home,” Kyle Hirst said. “I continue to work with two of my best friends weekly and am having an absolute blast.”

The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, Roth Investments, 3H Cattle, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Astro Titanium for their support in 2018.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 37, Wins: 10, Top 5’s: 26, Top 10’s: 29.

ON TAP: Hirst is slated to make the trip to Skagit Speedway this Friday and Saturday to battle ‘The Greatest Show on Dirt’.
