PETERSEN MEDIA: It’s not often when a rookie driver goes into a track with the same unknowns as the rest of the field, but that was the case on Saturday night in Fernley, NV when Kyle Offill followed the Sprint Car Challenge Tour up Highway 80 to compete in the series’ 10th event of the season in what was many of his competitors first time to the track as well.

“It was a really solid night for our team,” Kyle Offill said. “We had good speed early and we fought for a Top-10 in the feature event.”

Timing in second fastest in his qualifying group aboard the Ochoco West/Boise Cascade/Reliable Lumber No. 2K, Offill would line up in the second row of his heat race.

Working around the slick Fernley 95A Speedway surface, Offill would finish in the fourth position and move on into the 35-lap feature event. With the track crews continuing to massage the surface all night to keep moisture in it for the feature event, most of the field would be found using the bottom groove in the ‘A’ main.

Lining up in the 11th starting position, Offill would be found working the bottom of the speedway as he fought for a Top-10 spot for much of the race. The race would open up with a 33-lap non-stop green flag run and passing would simply be tough to do with not much grip other than on the bottom.

A late race yellow would set up a restart, and trying to make something happen to get inside the Top-10, Offill would be forced to take evasive action and it would result in him losing one position as he fell back to finish 12th.

“Passing was tough, but I felt pretty good in the car that my guys gave me,” Offill said. “We gave it our all for a Top-10, and came up just a little short but it was still a pretty good night.”

Team KO Racing would like to thank Ochoco West, Boise Cascade, Reliable Lumber, Maas Brothers Powder Coating, TMAC Motorsports, Offill Family Farms, Golden State Lumber, Inc., California TrusFrame, Lord & Sons, Inc., B&S Hacienda Auto Body, Country Builders Construction, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, HRP, Taco Bravo,  and Bacchetti Hay Service for their support this year.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 22, Wins: 2, Top 5’s: 2, Top 10’s: 6

ON TAP: Offill will take a couple of weeks off before returning to action on August 18th in Watsonville, CA and on August 19th in Placerville, CA.
