PETERSEN MEDIA- Looking for big money at the Rock-N-Roll Gold Cup at Badlands Motor Speedway, Ian Madsen would get over the cushion while running in the fifth spot on Sunday night and suffer suspension damage that essentially relegated him to a 19th place finish.

“I thought we had good speed during the prelim and the finale, but we bent a radius rod in the Sunday night feature and couldn’t really recover,” Ian Madsen said.

Friday night at the Badlands Motor Speedway in Brandon, SD, Madsen timed the Logan Contractors Supply/Aspen Aire/Kline Electric No. 18 machine in 10th fastest in time trials before picking up a third place finish during his heat race.

By way of his preliminary efforts, the St. Marys, NSW driver would find himself ninth in event points and in the fifth row for the 25-lap Friday night feature event. With every spot important for his overall point total, Madsen had his elbows up as he was masterful on the Badlands Motor Speedway.

Getting up to the fourth spot at the line, Madsen would sit sixth overall and safely in the Sunday night A Scramble.

Picking up a sixth place finish in the 10-lap race on Sunday night, Madsen would line the Royal Flooring/Bobcat/ entry up in the third row for the 35-lap $50,000-to-win feature event.

At the onset of the feature, Madsen would lose a few spots as the field got up to speed as he would find himself back in the ninth spot at one point. A racy Badlands Motor Speedway offered the field multiple lines run, thus allowing Madsen the opportunity to work his way back forward.

Running the cushion, Madsen would work his way back up to the fifth spot but getting over the cushion would cause suspension issues on Madsen’s entry and he would make a trip to the work area.

Restarting from the tail end of the field, Madsen would not quite be the same, as he would take the checkered flag with a 19th place finish.

“It was not the result we wanted, and our result isn’t indicative of how good we were all weekend,” Madsen added. “We just ran into some bad luck in the feature event, and it cost us. My guys do a great job, and this team is really strong on a nightly basis.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Team Kline Electric, Royal Flooring, Bobcat,, Caliber Iowa, Quality Traffic Control, Flatrate, Inc., Speck USA, Bergen Paulsen, Coverage Direct, Finer Cuts Lawn and Landscape, Lucas Oil, and Revolution Race Gear for their support this season.
