PETERSEN MEDIA- Running the duration of Saturday night’s feature event inside the Top-10, a flat tire with just two laps to go in the Sprint Car Challenge Tour feature event at Fernley 95a Speedway in Fernley, NV would relegate Colby Copeland to a 20th place finish.
“The way things were working out, we looked to be well on our way to a Top-10 finish,” Colby Copeland said. “It is a bummer to have our night end the way that it did, but those things happen in this sport.”
Timing the Econo Lube-n-Tune & Brakes No. x1JR machine in fifth fastest in his qualifying group, the Roseville, CA driver would have some work to do in his heat race.
Lining up fifth, Copeland would race his way inside the top four, where a fourth place finish would earn him the final transfer position into the 35-lap feature event out of his heat.
Finding himself 14th on the grid, Copeland would continue to grind in the feature on a surface that was simply tough to make up ground on. With the field all using the low side of the speedway, Copeland was able to patiently work his way inside the Top-10.
As the race moved on with no stoppages, Copeland would get up into the ninth spot in the closing laps. On the 33rd lap, things would go south for Copeland and his team as a flat tire would dash his hopes of a Top-10, and ultimately end his night as he was scored 20th.
“We had a really good run going in the feature, but we weren’t able to finish it off unfortunately,” Copeland added. “Thanks to everyone for all their hard work. We will try again in a couple of weeks.”
