Late Race Flat Slows Sanders at Ocean Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Amidst another extremely strong season, a win at Ocean Speedway has alluded Justin Sanders. Friday night, Sanders looked to be on his way to his first win of the season at the track he cut his teeth at until a flat tire dashed those hopes.

“We have had pretty bad luck at Ocean Speedway this year, and it continued again on Friday night,” Justin Sanders said. “We have had pretty good speed, but hopefully our luck will turn around during this weekend’s HK Classic.”

Checking in at Ocean Speedway with the Mittry Motorsports team, Sanders got his Friday night underway by timing the Farmers Brewing/Mittry Construction/North County Plastering No. 2x in sixth fastest in qualifying time trials.

Taking the green flag from the second row of his heat race, the Aromas, CA driver was hard on the throttle as he powered into second on the race’s first lap and then took command of the race on the third stanza. Picking up the win, Sanders made himself Dash eligible.

Pulling the five, Sanders jockeyed for position on the track’s bottom groove but was unable to improve his feature event starting position as a fifth-place finish put him in the third row for the 30-lap feature event.

Jumping into third as the race came to life, Sanders took over second on the ninth lap as he set his sights on race leader, Mitchell Faccinto. Taking over the top spot on the 12th lap, Sanders looked very strong as he continued to lead until the caution flew on lap 18.

During the race’s hiatus, it was apparent that Sanders’ right rear was losing air and he did all he could to keep air built up as they idled around the track.

When the race resumed, Sanders did a great job of keeping his machine up to speed as he slipped back to second. Running second and hanging on, Sander’s tire would give way on the 20th lap, and his night would come to an end.

“I think we have a good piece for this weekend’s big event, and hopefully we can avoid any bad luck,” Sanders said. “The track was really slick, but it looks like we ran something over and it wasn’t because of tire wear.”

Justin and his team would like to thank Farmers Brewing, Mittry Construction, North County Plastering, Alkaline88, Andy’s Construction, Roadside 24hr Service, Wicked Cushion, Roger’s Diner, Factory Kahne, BG Labels and Tee’s, Walker Performance Filtration, Dixon and Son Tires, Ernie’s Service Center, East Lake Village, FK Rod Ends, Triple X Race Co., DMI, Keizer Wheels, Wings Unlimited, Ti64 Titanium, AIS Heating and Sheet Metal, Fred Lint and Family, JonSan Racing, Sandblast Service, G&N Construction, Steitz Towing, Durden Construction, Ernie’s Service Center, and Steve Duppman Racing for their continued support in 2022.
