Lucas Ashe Looks To Rebound From Tough Night With Busy Two-Race Weekend Ahead

PETERSEN MEDIA: Lucas Ashe had a bit of a long night on Saturday at Stockton Dirt Track during the Jimmy Sills Classic. Having some mechanical issues early in the night, Ashe would race his way out of the ‘C’, and end up recording a 13th place finish in the ‘B’.

“We lost a fuel pump in the beginning of the night, and really had to scramble and found ourselves in a little bit of a hole,” Lucas Ashe said. “My guys did a great job of making the car feel good, and I felt pretty good in the C and the B.”

Timing the Jester Auto Museum and Event Center/SALCO Inc./Lucas Oil backed No. 33 entry in ninth quickest in his time trial, group Ashe would race to an eighth place finish in his heat race after taking the green flag out of ninth.

With 53 cars on hand, the eighth place finish would relegate him into one of the twin ‘C’ Mains, where the Cottonwood, CA driver would find himself on the front row. Needing to run inside the top-two to keep his night alive, Ashe would finish second at the stripe as he moved on to the ‘B’.

Finding himself in the 10th row of the ‘B’, Ashe would have his work cut out for himself on the slick Stockton Dirt Track surface. When the race got underway the youngster would make some nice moves as he began picking up positions are he approached the Top-10.

Getting into 14th on the 10th lap, Ashe would position for several laps with Tanner Boul before finally claiming 13th at the line. Though it was a nice run from the tail, Ashe’s 13th place finish would end his night.

“We raced pretty well I thought, and that is a testament to my guys working hard,” Ashe added. “This week it looks like we will be at Chico on Friday and Petaluma on Saturday and I am really looking forward to getting two races in. Thanks to Jim Van Lare, and everyone who works so hard for me on a daily basis.”
