Mad Man Storms To Second at Weedsport Speedway
PETERSEN MEDIA- Sunday night at the Weedspsort Speedway, Kerry Madsen closed his weekend out by charging his way to an exciting second place finish.
“We had a mediocre couple of nights, so it was good to end our week on Sunday with a great run,” Madsen said. “These boys have been working so hard on the car, I am happy to deliver on my end.”
With Mother Nature cancelling Saturday night’s event at the Williams Grove Speedway, Madsen and company traveled to the Weedsport Speedway on Sunday night for the series first visit to the speedway in 22 years.
With 35 cars on hand, Madsen would just narrowly make the heat race inversion as he timed the American Racing Custom Wheels/Keneric Racing No. 29 machine in 16th fastest.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, ‘The Mad Man’ would pick up the win, and move to the dash, where a sixth place finish would line him up in the third row for the 35-lap feature event.
Moving into the fourth spot very early in the race, Madsen would go to the cushion following a lap 20-restart, and take the third spot as he chased after second place running, Chad Kemmenah.
On the 21st lap, Madsen would slide up in front of Kemmenah on the exit of turn four, and the two would narrowly avoid contact at the flag stand, as Madsen would hold the spot.
In the closing laps, Madsen would track down Donny Schatz, but came up short, as he finished in the second spot.
“We got close to him (Schatz) on the black slick track, so we are certainly happy about that,” he added. “I pushed really hard, so I think we lost tome tire at the end of the night, but really happy with the result.”
Madsen and company would spend Wednesday in Friday night in the state of Pennsylvania taking on the PA Posse.
Wednesday night at the Lincoln Speedway, Madsen timed in 13th quickest in time trials before a heat race win would put him in the dash. Lining up in the feature event in the third row by way of his sixth place finish in the dash, tough track conditions made passing tough. Falling a couple of positions on restarts, Madsen would close his night with a ninth place finish.
Friday night, the series took to the famous Williams Grove Speedway to continue to battle with the PA Posse in front of legendary Beer Hill. Timing in sixth quick in time trials, Madsen would finish fourth in his heat race, and line up in the fifth row of the feature event.
In what would be a non-stop feature event, contact with another competitor at the start of the race caused wheel cover damage to his right-rear wheel, and it would ultimately pack with mud as the race went on. Hanging on for what was a very rough ride, Madsen would finish in the 12th spot.
“Wednesday and Friday we weren’t bad, but there just was not a lot of passing that went on either night,” Madsen said. “We have a couple more races out east this week, and we will keep at it.”
