PETERSEN MEDIA- Back in action with the USAC/CRA Series as they headed north over the weekend, Matt Mitchell was very consistent as he grabbed finishes of fifth and sixth as the series took over the Ocean Speedway on Friday and the Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night.

“Overall it was a decent weekend,” Mitchell said. “We were really consistent, and now we can look forward to getting back down to Perris this weekend.”

Hitting the Ocean Speedway on Friday night, the Yorba Linda, CA driver timed his machine in 11th fastest with 23 cars on hand.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Mitchell tried making a bid at the early lead, but was unable to, and settled into the third spot, where he would go on to finish.

Finding himself in the fifth row of the feature event, Mitchell was patient as he slowly worked his way forward and towards the top-five.

In the closing stages of the race, Mitchell was able to get past Austin Williams, and battle Nic Faas, but at the stripe Mitchell was unable to get by Faas, and he finished in the fifth spot.

Saturday night saw the USAC/CRA Series head to the Petaluma Speedway in Petaluma, CA, and Mitchell started his night off by timing the Pit Boss Jacks/Campbell Brothers Storage/MPD No. 37 machine in 10th fastest, with 30 cars checked into the pit area.

Lining up fourth in his heat, Mitchell got to the top of the speedway where he got into the second spot, and chased after early leader, Ryan Bernal. Unable to get to Bernal, Mitchell finished in the second spot, putting him in the 10th spot for the feature event.

Again using patience on the tight confines of the Petaluma Speedway, Mitchell battled all race long with Faa, and Colby Copeland.

With the trio all battling hard, it was Mitchell getting the better of the battle as he scored a sixth place finish.

“We are happy with the weekend,” he said. “We don’t get up to race these tracks very much, and to move forward both nights and escape with no damage after starting mid-pack is always good.”

Matt would like to thank Pit Boss Jacks, Campbell Brothers Storage, MPD, and ART Speed Equipment for their support in 2014.

2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-21, Wins-1, Top 5’s-8, Top 10’s-15

ON TAP: Matt will be back in action on Friday night for the 40-lap Firecracker 40 at the Perris Auto Speedway with the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars.
