PETERSEN MEDIA- Spending his week racing around Indiana as well as dabbling into Western Pennsylvania, Matt Mitchell is ready for a new challenge this week; Eastern Storm with the USAC National Sprint Car Series.

“It was great getting our feet wet, and racing at a few different tracks over the course of the last week,” Matt Mitchell said. “We have learned a few things, and we are ready for this new challenge ahead of us.”

Running at Gas City and Lincoln Park Speedway in Indiana early last week, Mitchell had speed at both Indiana bullrings.

Timing in third fastest in his group at Gas City I-69 Speedway, an incident at the start of his heat race led to a tore up racecar, and forced him into one of the twin ‘B’ Mains.

With a battered car, Mitchell had his elbows up as he worked his way towards one of two transfer positions that were up for grabs, but the Yorba Linda, CA driver came up just shot in the Channel Island Floor Coverings/H&M Landing/Ebbco backed No. 37.

Turning his attention to Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, IN, Mitchell got off to a great start to the night as he timed in fastest in his qualifying group and raced his way to a win in his heat race.

Moving into the 25-lap feature event, Mitchell took the green flag from fourth and settled into sixth once things settled down up front.

Running in sixth, much of the race, Mitchell ultimately slipped back to eighth in the closing laps where he went on to close his night out, as the team then decided to get an early start on their trip to Pennsylvania and hit a couple tracks in Western PA along the way.

Saturday night the team checked into Michaels Mercer Raceway with the BOSS Sprints, and Mitchell had a strong showing. Timing in fourth fastest in his qualifying flight, Mitchell raced his way to the win his heat race competition.

Moving into the feature event, Mitchell had his best run of the trip to date as he was able to land on the podium by way of his third-place finish.

Bringing the busy week to a close on Sunday night, Mitchell and company were in action at Knox Raceway in Knox, PA. Timing in fourth fastest in his group, Mitchell finished fourth in his heat race and lined up in the 11th starting position for the feature event.

Mired in traffic for the duration of the ‘A’, Mitchell battled for a spot inside the Top-10, but came up short as he settled for 11th in his final showing before kicking off Eastern Storm this week.

“It’s been great getting so many tracks already, and I am looking forward to getting to a lot more this week,” Mitchell added. “The USAC National guys are tough, and I am hoping we can learn a few things and have some good runs with them.”

Matt Mitchell would like to thank Dunham Metal Processing, H&M Landing, Channel Island Floor Coverings, Maxwell Industries, Uncle Riley, FK Rod Ends, Ebbco, P1 Australia, Factory Kahne, Simpson Race Products, Vahlco Wheels, Maxim Chassis, ARP Bolts, Faas Cores, Fight Opioids, Kaeding Performance, Don Ott Racing Engines, and Campbell Brothers Storage for their support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts: 9, Wins: 1, Top 5’s: 3, Top-10’s: 5.
