PETERSEN MEDIA- Coming off of an extremely frustrating 2016 campaign, Matt Peterson kicked his 2017 season off on Saturday night with the upstart Sprint Car Challenge Tour at Antioch Speedway.
“It was pretty much our shakedown night, and it just happened to be during one of the most anticipated nights of the year,” Peterson said. “The results were not what we wanted, but it is a start and we will go again this weekend weather permitting.”
A booming 58 cars showed up on Saturday night, and Peterson would time his Miller Lite/Inventory Sales Company/Bear Trucking backed No. p37 sprinter in 7th fastest in his qualifying group.
With a group-qualifying format in play with the SCCT, the Wilton, CA product would line up in the seventh starting position of his heat race. Admittedly missing his marks at times during his heat, Peterson would finish in the seventh spot and find himself mired in one of the evening’s ‘C’ main events.
Lining up in the sixth spot of his ‘C’ Main, Peterson would need to race his way into the top-two finishing positions if he wanted to keep his night moving into the ‘B’. Laying down some nice laps in the ‘C’, Peterson would work his way forward and get up to the third spot and come just one spot short of keeping his night alive.
“My guys and my family worked hard all winter to put a nice piece together, and I feel like I let them down a little on Saturday night,” Peterson added. “They deserve better than that, and I am focused on giving them good results in 2017.”
