Mechanical Gremlins End Mitchell Faccinto’s Trophy Cup Finale Early

PETERSEN MEDIA- Heading into Saturday’s Trophy Cup finale inside the Top-10 in event points, Mitchell Faccinto was poised to make more noise during Saturday’s feature, however a mechanical issue early in the 50-lap affair brought his night to an early end.

“We had a good run on Thursday night and we took that point total into Saturday’s finale and we were in a good spot,” Faccinto said. “After our Saturday night heat race, we lost a couple of spots, but I thought we were in a really good position to battle for the race win, but we had some engine issues that ended our night.”

Kicking the Trophy Cup off on Thursday night, Faccinto timed the Tarlton and Son Inc./EZ Haul/Executive Auto Sales backed no. 21 entry in 10th quickest in his qualifying group.

Finishing second in his heat, Faccinto would be forced into the ‘B’ where he would take the green flag from the sixth starting position. With four spots up for grabs into the opening night feature event, Faccinto had his elbows up on the racy surface as he carved his way into third before ultimately transferring into the ‘A’.

With the feature event inverted off event points, Faccinto took the green flag from the third row on a freshly groomed surface that would eventually go back to being very slick in just a handful of laps.

Battling in the seventh and eighth positions in the race’s opening laps, Faccinto would find himself in 10th at the halfway point as the track was on the verge of laying rubber down.

Falling back to 11th with seven laps to go in the race, Faccinto would make a couple of moves to get back inside the Top-10 before capping the night off with a ninth-place finish.

Returning to the Thunderbowl on Friday night, Faccinto would time in 23rd in time trials on this night before again finishing second in his heat race.

Lining up ninth in the B, Faccinto would again chase after one of the four transfer positions in the race and got off to a quick start as he quickly worked his way into sixth.

Getting shuffled back over the course of the race on the always tricky Thunderbowl Raceway, Faccinto would end up 12thin the ‘B’, as he quickly turned his attention to Saturday night as he sat 10th in points based off Thursday night’s performance.

Lining up seventh in the fully inverted eight car heat race on Saturday night, Faccinto would hold his position as he finished seventh but it would cost him a few positions in Trophy Cup points.

Slipping back to 16th in points, Faccinto would line up in the third row of the 50-lap feature event as he turned his sole focus on winning the race.

Getting off to a nice start, Faccinto would have issue arise on the fourth lap and it would bring his Trophy Cup to an early end.

“I was excited for us heading into the Saturday ‘A’, but unfortunately, we had some bad luck get us,” Faccinto said. “Thanks to my guys for the hard work all weekend, and thanks to the Tarlton’s for continuing to support all of us.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 48, Wins: 1, Top 5’s: 13, Top 10’s: 26.
