Mechanical Issues and Late Race Incident Hinder Andy Forsberg in Chico, CA and Placerville, CA

PETERSEN MEDIA: After a rare weekend off from racing, Andy Forsberg and the PHR Racing team were back in action to close out the month of August as the checked in at Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday and Placerville Speedway on Saturday. Having a great car during both feature events, Forsberg’s results were hindered by a mechanical issue on Friday night, and then a late race wreck on Saturday.

“We had good speed all weekend, but just had some bad luck,’ Andy Forsberg said. “We hurt a motor on Friday night, and then on Saturday night we were battling up front, but all hell broke loose in front of us and we had nowhere to go and got collected and taken out.”

Friday night marked the Tyler Wolf Memorial in Chico, CA, and Forsberg got the night kicked off by timing in sixth fastest in time trials, which locked him directly into the feature event as the track utilized the Cycleland Speedway format to honor the late Lowell Moural.

Finishing sixth in the Dash, Forsberg lined up 10th in the feature event as the Dash cars line up behind the four heat races winners.

Falling back to 13th Forsberg was able to work his way forward as he raced around the ¼ mile bullring. Getting back into 10th at the race’s halfway point, Forsberg continued to battle until engine issues arose on the 20th lap and he pulled his car back to the pit area as his night came to an end.

Back in action on Saturday night for ‘Legends Night’ at Placerville Speedway, a robust 40 cars checked into take part in the track’s regular season finale and Forsberg timed the PHR/Meridian Cameras/Wilkie Masonry backed No. 92 in sixth fastest in his qualifying flight.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Forsberg hooked up in a spirited battle with Ryan Bernal as they jockeyed for position and fought hard for the win as it was vital in a spot in the nightly redraw.

Able to secure the win, Forsberg was in the redraw where the two pill lined him up on the front row of the 25-lapper alongside Colby Copeland.

When the race went green, the battle was intently on just as it has been with Forsberg during the previous two feature event at Placerville Speedway. Forsberg and Copeland raced hard for the top spot until contact on the third circuit sent the Auburn, CA driver over the cushion.

Falling back to fourth, Forsberg still fought hard as he raced his way back into third and continued to chase after Copeland.

Passing Copeland on entering turn three on the 18th lap, mayhem broke out in front of the leaders, and while it looked like Forsberg was going to make it by unscathed, a car with no brakes or steering came down the track and shoved Forsberg into the wall and again ended his night early.

“Friday night I said I just wanted Saturday to be an event free night after we had engine issues, and it was looking to be that way, until it wasn’t,” Forsberg added. “On a side note, it was a great ‘Legends Night’ event at the track, and it is something that is getting very big and I personally think it could be incorporated into the Labor Day weekend event and really turn into something. It was also so cool to be a part of Brian Crockett’s last race ever. He’s the best to ever do it at Placerville Speedway, and I grew up watching him, so it was very special to me.”

Andy Forsberg and PHR Racing would like to thank Meridian Cameras, Pacific Highway Rentals, Wilkie Masonry, PitStopUSA, Red Line Oil, Autism Awareness, Parking and Transportation Group, Western Featherlite, GP Development, 1st Vanguard, Highway Specialty Co., and KBJ Catering for their continued support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-27, Wins-4, Top 5’s-11, Top 10’s-15

ON TAP: Forsberg is set for two more nights of action this Saturday and Sunday back at Placerville Speedway for the NorCal Posse Shootout.
