PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to his micro roots over the weekend to take part in the Keith Kunz Motorsports Giveback Classic event at Plaza Park in Visalia, CA, Ashton Torgerson picked up a fifth-place finish during his Wednesday night prelim before a mid-race issue took him out of Friday night’s finale.
Kicking his weekend off on Wednesday night piloting the Torgerson Racing No.02 entry, the Glendale AZ driver timed in 15th fastest in qualifying time trials, which put him on the front row of his heat race.
Needing to take advantage of the prime starting position to accrue max points, Torgerson did just that as the win moved him into a qualifier where he ultimately lined up in the second row.
When the qualifier went green, Torgerson was able to move forward as he picked up a position and accepted the checkered flag with a second place finish and transferred directly into the opening night feature event.
Lining up third in the 25-lapper, Torgerson looked to finish inside the Top-4 to lock directly into Friday night’s Championship feature event.
Settling into fourth when the feature came to life, Torgerson was able to jump into third on the fourth lap, but he was amidst a furious battle for the final lock in position and bounced between fourth and sixth for the next four stanzas.
Settle back into fourth on the ninth lap as he got some separation from fifth, a late restart changed the look of Torgerson’s night. The ensuring restart saw the battle for the final lock in spot heat up, and Torgerson slipped back to fifth with just three laps to go in the race.
Doing all he could to race back into the lock in spot, he came up short and found himself on the front row of a Friday night ‘B’ Main.
Spending Thursday night as a Torgerson Racing crew member, he returned to the track himself on Friday night, looking to lock into the feature and put on a run in the feature.
Making quick work of the field in his ‘B’, Torgerson raced to the win and found himself in the ninth spot for the 35-lap Championship finale.
When the feature went green, Torgerson dropped a few positions in the early going as he fell back to 11th where he ran much of the race. After dropping to 12th for a lap, Torgerson was able to make a big move to get into 10th, but he found himself in a tight battle.
A misstep saw him slip back to 14th on the 19th lap, and the 20th lap issues arose and brought his feature event to an end.
