Mitchell Faccinto Fifth with Sprint Car Challenge Tour

PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to action off of a two-week hiatus, Mitchell Faccinto and the Tarlton Motorsports team flexed their muscle against a stout 52 car field on Saturday night in Merced, CA as Faccinto pocketed a fifth-place finish with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.

“We had a really good night,” Mitchell Faccinto said. “We had good speed all night, and the only blemish was pulling an eighth for the Dash only to see the Dash cancelled which then put us eighth on the starting grid for the feature event.”

Taking part in qualifying group No. 1, Faccinto would get the Tarlton and Son Inc./EZ Haul/Executive Auto Sales backed No. 21 in second fastest in qualifying time trials which would then line him up on the front row of his heat race.

With the track extremely slick and on the verge of taking rubber when heat race one we green, the Hanford, CA driver knew the importance of getting the jump and did just that as he was hard on the throttle.

Leading from flag to flag, Faccinto’s win would move him into the impending Dash where the eight placed him in the fourth row. As the night went on and more track prep would be needed, SCCT officials opted to cancel the Dash for the sake of time and tire wear which then put Faccinto in the fourth row of the 35-lap feature event.

An extensive track prep prior to the feature going green changed the surface drastically and created an extremely fast racing groove for the opening stages of the event.

Settling into seventh, Faccinto would run there as passing would be tough during a fast paced 27 lap green flag run that opened the race up. While it looked like the race would go non-stop, the restart would be just what Faccinto needed.

The ensuing restart would see Faccinto advance a row as the action came back to life as he took over the fifth position and pressured Tony Gomes for fourth.

Unable to make the move in the race’s closing stages, Faccinto capped a strong night with a fifth-place finish as he now turns his attention to a doubleheader in Chico, CA.

“I really want to thank Drew and the guys for giving me a really good car,” Faccinto said. “It was great to get back in and be fast right out of the box after a couple weeks off and in our 360ci after not running one for the last two months. Thanks to Tommy and Tom Tarlton for letting us come out and have fun, and I am really looking forward to Chico, CA this weekend. After getting our first win there together back in early March, I am really confident heading back there this weekend.”

Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Tarlton and Son Inc., EZ Haul, Executive Auto Sales, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, FK Shocks, FK Rod Ends, System 1 Ignition, Vortex Wings, and BG Lubricants for their support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 9, Wins: 1, Top 5’s: 3, Top 10’s: 4.

ON TAP: Mitchell Faccinto will return to action Friday and Saturday night in Chico, CA.
