PETERSEN MEDIA: After closing his 2014 season at the Cocopah Speedway near Yuma, AZ in late November, DJ Netto and his DJ Netto Racing Team returned to the speedway to open their 2015 season during the Inaugural Winter Heat Showdown.
“It’s a great event, and it’s great to start our season in January, but unfortunately, things have not gone our way,” the Hanford, CA driver explained.
Kicking the event off on Friday night, Netto struggled with his machine, as he finished in the eighth spot of his heat race, putting him in the rear of his qualifier.
Starting in the fourth row of his qualifier, Netto looked to have a better handle on his Netto Ag/Penny Newman Grain/Bogies Auto Parts machine, as he picked up a few positions, and finished in the sixth spot.
With points forcing him into the B Main, Netto would line up in the fifth row, before near contact saw him slow on the speedway, and head to the work area.
After his crew checked his machine over, Netto tagged the rear of the field, and proceeded to put some nice laps together as he charged to a 12th place finish, but that would not transfer him into the feature event.
Back in action on Saturday night, Netto had a much better draw for his heat race, that saw him start in the third row of the race.
Off to a much better start on Saturday night, Netto was making some early moves, and found himself in the fourth spot and moving forward when his machine went up in smoke, and engine woes ended his night.
“It was a tough weekend, but it was nice to make some good laps in the B on Friday night, and have a good start in our heat on Saturday,” he added. “The guys will go to work, and hopefully on Tuesday we can have some fun.”
