PETERSEN MEDIA: During his first trip to Ocean Speedway on Friday night, DJ Netto would battle up front all night long as he finished in the third spot, before recording a hard fought ninth place finish with the KWS on Saturday night in Tulare, CA.
“It was a pretty good weekend for our race team again,” Netto said. “We had some good speed on Friday with our 360, and on Saturday we were battling for a top-five but on the lone restart we kind of got forced up into the wall, and we limped home to a ninth place finish in the final few laps.”
With a 360 bolted into the Tri-C Manufacturing/Netto Ag/Van De Pol Enterprises backed No. 3c, Netto would kick his weekend off by timing in third quickest in qualifying time trials.
Finishing fourth in his heat race, the Hanford, CA product would finish in the third spot in the Dash. All set for the 30-lap feature event, Netto would get the jump and lead the opening five laps before a caution would slow the pace.
Getting the jump on the restart, Netto would lead over Cory Eliason on a very hooked up track. Coming to complete the sixth lap, Netto would pull the front wheels off the ground in a big way and would fall back to the second spot.
Back in second, Netto would go from being hunted to the hunter as he set his sights on Eliason who had gotten away on the quick surface. Continuing to run in second, Netto would feel pressure from Tommy Tarlton in the closing laps. The two Central Valley drivers would fight for the second spot.
After a spirited battle, Netto would take the checkers with a third place finish.
Making his way to Tulare, CA on Saturday night for KWS action, Netto opened the night up with the 11th fastest lap in qualifying time trials.
Battling with Willie Croft in the opening laps of his heat race, Netto would get the better of his counterpart as he would grab the win and make his way to the Dash.
Finishing eighth in the Dash, Netto would line up in the fourth row for the 30-lap feature event. On a reworked surface, the opening laps would see drivers patiently wait for the track to widen out.
With the first 23 laps clicking off with no stoppages, the action would heat up as the laps clicked on. Getting up to the seventh spot when the race’s lone caution flew, Netto would look to get a good restart and continue his charge forward.
When the race resumed, Netto would get forced up the track a little higher than he wanted and it would result in him bouncing hard off the turn one wall.
Losing a few spots, Netto would remain in the Top-10 as he limped home in the race’s final laps as he finished ninth.
“Saturday night we really got going around lap 15 and got up near the Top-five,” Netto added. “We just got out of sorts in turn one on the restart and lost some spots.”
2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-23, Wins-1, Top 5’s-6, Top 10’s-10
