PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting back to work with the KO Motorsports team and resuming the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Series schedule, Paul Nienhiser would have a nice weekend in Indiana that was highlighted by an eighth place run on Thursday night at Plymouth Speedway.
“It was good to get back to Indiana and have some success after that tough trip to Pennsylvania,” Nienhiser said. “Still figuring some of these places out, and this week brings another new challenge as we head to Knoxville Raceway.”
The three-night swing kicked off on Thursday night as the series, and Nienhiser, checked in at Plymouth Speedway. Timing the CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil/Roadwork/Peterbilt backed No. 5n machine in sixth fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up fifth in his heat race, the Chapin, IL driver would work his way into fourth which would transfer him directly into the feature event and keep him inside the Top-Six inversion which would ultimately put him on the pole of the feature event.
On an extremely slick surface, Nienhiser would have his hands full in the feature event as the car was just a little off. With the top being the dominant line, the Rookie of the Year contender would lose a few spots as the race moved along and he would end up with an eighth-place finish.
Friday night the scene shifted to Lincoln Park Speedway int Putnamville, IN. Timing in third fastest in his qualifying group, Nienhiser would have a close call in heat race action as he would get into the cushion to hard and bicycle his machine. Though he avoided disaster, he would fade to fifth, and be forced into the ‘B’ with only four cars transferring out of each heat.
Lining up on the pole of the ‘B’, Nienhiser knew he had to get the jump with only two cars making the transfer into the ‘A’. Doing just that, Nienhiser would wire the field as he picked up the win and moved into the 21st starting position in the feature event.
With a very strong showing in the semi, Nienhiser and company made modest changes prior to the feature, and Nienhiser was able to make a nice charge through a loaded field.
Able to put his car anywhere he needed on the Lincoln Park Speedway surface, Nienhiser would have a nice charge through the field that culminated with an 11th place finish.
Saturday night again saw the series in action at Lincoln Park Speedway, where Nienhiser would get off to another good start as he was sixth fastest in his qualifying flight on this night.
Lining up fourth in his heat, Nienhiser would make an early run for second but ultimately settled for a fourth-place finish.
Able to avoid the ‘B’ by way of his heat race finish, Nienhiser would take the green flag from the 13th starting position on this night.
When the race went green, Nienhiser was able to pick up a few positions early as he looked for a spot inside the Top-10. Battling for position, a late restart would not work in Nienhiser’s favor as he slipped back and capped the weekend off with a 15th place finish.
“It was awesome to have speed all weekend,” Nienhiser said. “These KO Motorsports guys continue to work with me and put a fast car underneath me and it makes it fun. Really excited to get to Knoxville this weekend and see what we can do>”
Nienhiser would like to thank CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil, Roadworks, Peterbilt, Mason Sound, Innovative Design, Bradshaw Custom Pumping, Wessler Bros.
