Not The Weekend Netto Had In Mind

PETERSEN MEDIA: Fresh off of an impressive run with the King of the West Series a week ago at the Kings Speedway, DJ Netto looked to take that momentum with him into last weekend’s double header at the Ocean Speedway and Calistoga Speedway, but the Hanford, CA driver found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time on both night’s ruining his night on both occasions.

“We were really good both night’s I thought, and probably should have picked up two top-five’s,” he said. “It’s part of it the sport we love, but at the same time it is a little frustrating.”

Friday night was shaping up to be a great night for Netto, and he was a straight away from finishing in the fifth spot, but he got collected in a huge wreck coming to the checkered flag and ended up finish in the 12th spot.

“We qualified okay (9th), but I was able to win my heat race and get in the Dash,” he said. “We finished fifth in the Dash, and were running in the top-five all night, but unfortunately there was a huge wreck coming to the finish and there was no where to go.”

Saturday night Netto followed the series to the Calistoga Speedway, and he started his night out by timing the Netto Ag/Penny Newman Grain/Bogies Auto Parts No. 88n in fifth fastest.

Getting through his heat race in the fifth spot, Netto advanced into the Dash, where he lined up eighth, and was able to finish in the seventh spot, putting him in row four for the 25-lap feature event.

The big ½ mile was in excellent shape for the feature event, as two racing lines saw great racing all over the speedway.

Moving forward in the feature event, Netto got up to the sixth spot as he battled with Dominc Scelzi for a position in the Top-Five until the caution flew on the 16th lap.

The restart saw Netto jump into the fifth spot as he had a front row seat to the three car battle for the second spot unfold in front of him until the caution again flew on the 18th lap.

Netto’s night came to an end on the ensuing restart when contact sent his machine spinning in the front stretch wall, causing severe damage to his machine.

“Someone got into us going down the straight away and we spun and made pretty good contact with the wall,” he said. “I hate it for my guys, and everyone who supports me and works on the car because we have been really fast, but we tore up some equipment.”

DJ and his Netto Racing team would like to thank Netto Agriculture, Penny Newman Grain, Bogies Auto Parts, and Vande Pol Enterprises for their support in 2014.

ON TAP: Netto will now take a week off before returning to action on the 5th of July with the Civil War Series Presented By Flowmaster at the Petaluma Speedway.

2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-25, Wins-1, Top 5’s-2, Top 10’s-4
