PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting a heavy dose of winged 360ci action last week as he took part in Oregon Speedweek South, Austin Torgerson performed well and his week was highlighted by a pair of 12th place finishes.
Kicking the week off back on August 21st at Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove, OR, Torgerson got his night underway by timing the Safety Kleen-C&K Towing backed No. 88 in 16th fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Glendale, AZ runner finished in the second spot, which lined him up 12thin the feature event. Hanging tough in the 30-lap feature event, Torgerson battled hard as he maintained the status quo. Holding on to his 12th spot, Torgerson closed the opener out with a 12th place finish.
Tuesday night the scene shifted West as the team headed to the coast to invade Coos Bay Speedway in Coos Bay, OR. Getting off to a quick start, Torgerson timed in ninth fastest in qualifying before finishing fourth in his heat race.
Moving into the feature event, Torgerson lined up 14th for the 30-lapper on a slick racing surface. Running in 14th for the first 1/3 of the race, Torgerson moved in 13th on the 10th lap as continued to gain valuable seat time as he continues to make the transition from a micro to a full size sprint car.
Looking like he was on his way to a 13th place finish, Torgerson moved into 12th with just two laps left in the feature and went on to secure his second consecutive 12th place finish.
Wednesday night saw the speedway invade the newly configured Douglas County Speedway. Continuing to time in well on unfamiliar tracks, Torgerson was 10th fastest on this night.
Having a little trouble in his heat race, a seventh-place finish forced him into the ‘B’ Main, but picking up the win in the semi kept his night alive as he transferred into the feature event.
Taking the green flag from the 17th starting position, Torgerson was back in 20th early in feature. Slowly able to make up some ground, the Sprint Car rookie worked his way back to a 16th place finish when the race came to a close.
Checking in at Southern Oregon Speedway in Medford, OR on Thursday night, Torgerson charged from his 17th starting spot in the feature event to finish 13th to close out the Oregon part of the week.
Getting into CA to close the week out on Friday and Saturday, the car counts nearly doubled and added even more difficulty to Torgerson’s task. Finishing 13th in the ‘B’ on Friday night in Chico, CA, Torgerson battled hard on Saturday night in Placerville, CA as his third-place finish B Main 2 saw him miss out on a transfer by just one position.
