PETERSEN MEDIA: Putting together a strong Trophy Cup back in the seat of the Rutz Racing No. 8r, a broken spark plug on Saturday night would force Cox to run much of the 50-lap feature under power.

“I can’t thank Doug Rutz and his family enough for putting myself in a great position for Trophy Cup,” Justyn Cox said. “It was probably the best I have felt at Tulare, and I am  just bummed for everyone that a part failure basically ended the weekend for us.”

Timing in fastest in qualifying both Thursday and 2ndfastest on Friday night, Cox would take his Friday night points into Saturday’s finale after capping his night off with a 13thplace finish.

Sitting 14thin points, Cox would gain valuable points by winning his heat race, as he would head into the 50-lap feature sitting 9thin the weekend point standings.

With the Top-20 being inverted for the ‘A’, Cox would roll off the starting grid from the 12thstarting position. On a very racy surface that was presented to the field for the feature, Cox would pick up a few positions in the opening laps as he quickly raced inside the Top-10.

Working up into fourth in the race, Cox would start to notice is machine losing power on the 10thlap as something was array under the hood of his car. Trying to fight through the issue, Cox admitted that it would get worse when he lifted.

Giving it his all for about 20-laps, Cox’s night would  come to a close on the 32ndlap as the engine stumble was pretty bad and it caused me to spin.

“I tried to make it work as long as I could but the stumble got really bad, and I didn’t want to tear the car up,” Cox said. “Luckily it is a quick fix, but I hate it for all of these guys.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Michael David Winery, Five Window Beer Company, MDW Sports, Cranked Naturals, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, VSR, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2019!
