PETERSEN MEDIA: Though he has competed at the Chili Bowl a couple of times over the course of his career, Paul Nienhiser was finally able to make his outdoor midget debut over the weekend as he competed with Jake Neuman Racing with the POWRi Series at Belle-Clair Speedway where a late mistake would knock him out of the Top-10 as he finished 14th.
“I had a blast getting back in a midget and racing somewhere other than Chili Bowl,” Paul Nienhiser said. “There was a ton of good cars there and I was really pleased with how the night went aside from a mistake late in the race.”
Lining the Boss Racing/Stanton SR11 No. 51b entry up in the second row of his heat race, the Chapin, IL driver would take part in a three-headed battle for the second position before finally settling for third at the stripe.
When all heats were completed, Nienhiser found himself 14th in points, which would place him in the seventh row for the feature event. With a very strong piece underneath him, Ninehser adapted well all night and was able to work his way forward and crack the Top-10. Able to go toe-toe with some stiff competition, Nienhiser would run well as he clicked off laps inside the Top-10.
Getting into traffic, Nienhiser would get himself into a little trouble navigating through traffic and as a result he would stall his machine and be forced to the back of the pack.
Still with good speed, Nienhiser would get what he could in the closing laps as he was able to work his way forward and close Saturday night out with a 14th place finish.
“I felt really good about my showing, and really surpassed my goal of just making it into the feature,” Nienhiser added. “I think attempting to go non-wing racing last week helped me adapt to the midget so quick, and it is something I would love to do more of. We are actually working together to hopefully try and run either Friday or Sunday this weekend.”
Nienhiser would like to thank CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil, Mason Sound, Innovative Design, Bradshaw Custom Pumping, Wessler Bros. Agency, Bob Hawks Auto Body, Littleton Storm & Timber, Fierce Herbicide, Sunstoppers Window Tinting, Engler Machine and Tool, FK Indy, Rider Racing Engines, Kaeding Performance, JRC Transportation, Signature Signs and Design, and Steve Thomas Racing for their continued support.
2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-55, Wins-8, Top 5’s-14, Top 10’s-25
ON TAP: With Nienhiser still finalizing a Friday or Sunday midget race, he will for sure be in action on Saturday night at St. Francois County Raceway in Farmington, MO taking part in the Queen’s Royal.
