Ryan Robinson Steps Away From Racing; Jodie Robinson To Replace Him at Weiher Racing

PETERSEN MEDIA: Sitting out nearly all of the 2023 racing season to spend time with his new and growing family, Ryan Robinson was poised to reunite with Todd Weiher and run a limited local scheduled in 2024. Unfortunately, after enduring a hard wreck at Silver Dollar Speedway in mid-March, Robinson has made the decision to fully step away from racing after aggravating a previous injury.

“After the wreck in Chico, CA, I have made the decision to step away from driving,” Ryan Robinson said. “The most important things to me in my life are my family and my work, and with how susceptible I am to concussions and vision issues, its simply not worth it for me to continue racing. I always have and will always love racing. It has shaped me into the person I am today and has created many great memories and relationships. While it is a little hard to say this aloud, it’s also an easy decision to look out for myself and my wellbeing at the same time.”

Ryan Robinson was a driver to watch anytime he checked into the pit area from his time in Outlaw Karts, USAC Midgets, and into Sprint Cars. Growing up under Champion racer, David Robinson Jr, Robinson became a champion himself as he was the 2021 titlist with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour while driving for longtime friend, Todd Weiher.

During his younger days, Robinson had two hard crashed in a Midget that resulted in a pair of concussions, that also included temporary vision impairment. Following his wreck in Chico, CA, Robinson again was diagnosed with a concussion and had vision issues that lasted for nearly an hour, all of which led to him to make that decision.

“The impact from these crashes caused the retina to detach from the wall of my eye, and the gap it creates fills with fluid and leads to the vision issues,” Robinson added. “It always heals itself, but the scar tissue it creates does cause lasting issues that ultimately could lead to severe vision issues,” Robinson explained.

While he was excited for the idea of racing close to home in front of his new wife and 18-month-old daughter, Robinson is extremely thankful for all of the people who helped his career along the way.

“I have been extremely grateful to work with some amazing people in my career, and I am thankful for all of them,” Robinson added. “Some of these people include my wife Kylie, and our daughter, my parents, Guy and Cindy Morrison, Dave and Sandy Robinson, Judy Robinson, Papa Chuck, Barbera and Randy Bergem, Joedy Woodcock, Billy Bob, Devin, Dave, Greg, and Rico Abreu, Gonzalo Avecedo, Cheto, Factory QRC, Vern Morrison, John Boy, Bryan Bullard, Chad Ede, Pete Willoughby, Keith Kunz, Big Al, MOTI Coaching, Rod Tiner, Todd and Deawn Weiher, Leroy Stanton, Timmy McPeak, Dave Harvey, Alan Bradway, Tooch, Mike Phulps, Larry Antaya, Ryan Riley, and Rick.”

For Todd Weiher, racing with Ryan Robinson was something he relished and a stint in his time as a car owner that he will forever be thankful for.

“I’m not shy about it, but I love Ryan Robinson,” Weiher said. “I respect the heck out of his decision to sit out this past year to be with his growing family, and I respect his decision to put himself first and focus on staying healthy at this time. He is a ton of fun to race with, and we have some fond memories together that I will forever cherish, and with our new driver, I know he won’t be too far away.”

With Robinson vacating the seat, Weiher won’t have to change too many decals on his 14W machine, as he will turn to Ryan Robinson’s sister, Jodie Robinson to take over driving duties as 2024 will mark her return to racing.

“What can I say, there is something about the Robinson family,’ Todd Weiher said with a laugh. “I worked with David Robinson Jr back when, then obviously with Ryan, and now I have the chance to work with Jodie. She was extremely fast when she ran regularly, and I look forward to having some fun in 2024.”

The new dynamic will make their debut together on Saturday night at the Stockton Dirt Track with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour, which marks the first of a 14-race schedule they have put together.

Weiher Racing would like to thank Mako Farms Inc., LP Holdings, Roseville Precision Inc., Escalon Body and Frame, Seth’s Racing Engines, Grossie Electric Inc., Pettibone Builders, Vintage Car Wash, Sipes CC, The Holman Family, Square Tires, Papa Chuck, Dave Harvey Trucking, and Morrison Concrete for their continued support.
