PETERSEN MEDIA: A week after picking up two feature event wins, Justin Sanders returned to action and score a pair of second place finishes as he was in action with the Ocean Sprints on Friday night and the Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster on Saturday night.

“Friday night was a really fun race, and on Saturday we were able to work from 14th to second, so I was really happy with how we performed,” Justin Sanders said.

Friday night at the Ocean Speedway, Justin Sanders timed his JSR No. 17 machine in third fastest in qualifying time trials before racing his way to a third place finish during his heat race.

Earning a spot in the night’s dash, the Watsonville, CA driver would finish in the seventh spot, and line up for the 30-lap feature event in the fourth row.

A picture perfect Ocean Speedway surface greeted drivers for the 30-lap affair, and from the fourth row, Sanders worked multiple lines to put his machine in contention for the race win late in the race.

Getting into the third spot on the 23rd lap, Sanders would battle with Shane Golobic and Bud Kaeding in thick traffic, until the caution flew on the 27th lap. The three lap-shootout saw Sanders slid up in front of Kaeding to take the second spot, but he would run out of time to pressure Golobic, and he settled for second.

Taking on the Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster on Saturday night aboard the F&W Racing No. 18 machine, Sanders would not get this night off the start he was hoping for as he would time in 15th fastest, and miss the heat race inversion.

Lining up in the fifth row of his heat race, Sanders would work his way up into the third spot, and earn a transfer position into the feature event, though he had his work cut out for himself, as he lined up in the seventh row.

On a tricky, and technical Petaluma Speedway surface, Sanders was able to patiently move up, as he cracked the top-five by the 10th lap. Battling with drivers like Geoff Ensign, and Andy Forsberg, Sanders would work into the third spot, as the race came to a close.

Battling with Forsberg in the closing laps, the duo would exchange the second spot on a few occasions, with Sanders ultimately getting the spot, and ending his weekend with his second consecutive second place finish.

“After qualifying I was not sure what kind of night we would have, as Petaluma is not one of by best tracks,” Sanders added. “We worked hard, and we raced really well, and I am proud of this entire team.”

ON TAP: As of now, Sanders has a bit of a break in his schedule, and is looking for any opportunities to get to the track.

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-26, Wins-8, Top-5’s-18, Top-10’s-24
