PETERSEN MEDIA- Sunday night in Bakersfield, CA, Shane Golobic and Tarlton Motorsports made their first start together in 2018 during the King of the West Series’ season opening event and it would go extremely well as Golobic turned in a dominating performance to score the feature event win.

“It was a really good night,” Shane Golobic said. “It was surprising how quickly I became comfortable in the 21x considering it was my first time at Kern County Raceway Park, my first time in the car, and my first time working with Paul Baines. Paul prepared an absolutely awesome racecar, and we had speed every time we hit the track.”

With rain delaying the start to the 2018 King of the West Series’ season by one day, Sunday would see 22 cars check into Kern County Raceway Park. Golobic would get off to a nice start to the season as he timed the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino/Tarlton and Son, Inc./Elite Landscape Construction No. 21x entry in second quickest overall.

Heat race action would see the Fremont, CA native garner a third place finish and it would prove good enough to get him into the Dash where a third place finish would put him in the third row for the 30-lap ‘A’ Main.

Following some last minute adjustments to the Tarlton Motorsports entry, Golobic would make his way on to the speedway for the 30-lap affair where he would find his place in the second row.

As the race came to life, the bottom would prove to the preferred lane as he would work into second as he chased after Willie Croft. On the race’s second lap Golobic would shoot around croft off of turn two and assume the race lead.

A caution just after taking command of the race would line the field up for a restart and put Croft on his rear bumper. Able to get a good jump, Golobic would continue to lead the way as traffic would soon become a factor.

Slowing his pace just a touch to navigate traffic, Golobic would have to combat a couple of pass attempts from Croft and Dominic Scelzi, but on this night it was all about Golobic and Tarlton Motorsports as the team began their quest for the KWS crown by scoring the opening night feature event win.

“I was extremely excited to roll up and park in victory lane on Sunday,” Golobic added. “I can’t thank Tom (Tarlton) Tommy (Tarlton), Paul (Baines) and everyone else associated with this team for their hard work all night. I really hope this is a sign of great things to come for the rest of the KWS/NARC season.”

Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Elite Landscape Construction, Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, and BG Lubricants for their support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 1, Wins: 1, Top 5’s: 1, Top 10’s: 1.

ON TAP: Golobic and Tarlton Motorsports will return to action when KWS action resumed on Friday April 20th at Ocean Speedway and on Saturday April 21st at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA.
