PETERSEN MEDIA- Shane Hopkins made another first time visit to a track on Saturday night as he continues his rookie campaign with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour. Making his first appearance at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA Hopkins recorded a 16th place finish aboard the Moxie Motorsports No. 97 entry.
“It was a fun to get back on the big track,” Shane Hopkins said. “I think we were a little under powered early in the night, but a great accomplishment for our team to make the feature in our first visit to a track.”
Timing the Moxie Mechanical/Morrison Concrete/TNT Powdercoat No. 97 sprinter in eighth quickest in his qualifying group, the Cameron Park, CA resident would line up in the fourth row of his heat race.
Working his way forward a couple of positions to garner a sixth place finish, Hopkins would find himself in the second row of the 15-lap ‘B’ Main where he would have one final shot to transfer into the 30-lap finale.
From the fourth starting position, Hopkins would quickly jump into second where he would give himself some insurance early the semi. Holding on to the position, Hopkins would finish second and continue his night as he would move on to the feature event where he would take the green flag from the 22nd starting spot.
On the slick racing surface, Hopkins would take advantage of a couple of early spills as he would pick up a couple of ‘give me’ positions. During green flag racing action, Hopkins would work his way forward a little more as he closed his night out with a 16th place finish.
“It was a start for us at a pretty big track, and we will take it,” Hopkins said. “It was big, wide, and slick and we were able to have some fun. I have to admit, I am looking forward to getting back to the bullring in Placerville this Saturday as we have been pretty good there lately. Huge thanks to Vern, my dad, Josh, and Chad for all of their hard work on Saturday night.”
