Shane Hopkins Charges to 10th at Antioch Speedway

Updated: Jun 1, 2020

PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to racing for the first time since early March, Shane Hopkins and the High Sierra Industries team charged to a 10th place finish on Saturday night in Antioch, CA.

“It was great to finally get back to racing, and I can’t thank High Sierra Industries for letting us get out and have some fun,” Shane Hopkins said. “Also want to thank the Antioch Speedway staff for their open mind with the Sprint Cars, as well as getting the pay as close to normal as they could despite now crowd.”

With the draw show format being utilized, Hopkins found himself in the seventh starting position in his heat race aboard the High Sierra Industries/Interstate Oil Company/C&H Motor Parts backed No. 21 machine.

With only the Top-Three finishers moving directly into the feature event, the Placerville, CA driver had his work cut out for himself. Only able to get to sixth at the checkered, Hopkins would find himself in the third row of one of the twin ‘B’ Mains.

Able to secure to the fourth and final transfer position into the feature event, Hopkins would again find himself deep in the field as he rolled off the starting grid from the 19th starting position.

As the surface continued to slowly widen out as the night moved on, Hopkins was very patient from his last row starting position. Working his way forward, Hopkins was able to narrowly avoid disaster as a got by a flipping car just ahead of him.

When the race resumed following the early red, Hopkins would continue to work his way towards the top-10.

Battling with Blake Carrick late in the race, Hopkins would cap his night off with a great drive from 19th to 10th.

“Big thanks to my Dad, Brian Sperry, and Jeremy,” Hopkins said. “We got better and better each time we hit the track and came away with a pretty good run. Not sure when we will get the winged car out next but looking forward to getting back in the Sperry No. 51 non wing car in a few weeks. Last time out we were able to get a win, so it should be a fun reunion.”

Hopkins would like to thank High Sierra Industries, Interstate Oil Company, C&H Motor Parts, ARP, ADCO, Anrak, C&H Veteran Enterprises, Brian Sperry Racing, Capitol ACE Hardware, King's Meats, LRB, Gary Morgan Graphics, Jake Morgan Racing, Johnson Motorsports, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Image Salon and Spa, PT Shocks, Tiner Hirst Enterprise, Kyle Johnson Racing, and Petersen Media for their support in 2020.
