PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting the call to pilot the Brian Sperry No. 51 wingless car on Saturday night, Shane Hopkins had a good night during his debut with the Hunt Wingless Series as he picked up a fifth place finish.

“I have to thank Brian Sperry for giving me a shot in his car,’ Shane Hopkins said. “He has great equipment, and I had a blast mixing it up with the Hunt Series. I just made a couple of mistakes that cost us a shot at a win.”

Timing the C&H Veteran Enterprises backed No. 51 machine in second fastest in qualifying time trials, Hopkins would go on to pick up a second place finish in his heat race and earn a berth in the redraw.

Pulling the coveted one pill, Hopkins would lead the field to green in the what was the series’ final event of the 2019 season. Getting the jump, Hopkins would lead the way early and quickly find himself at the rear of the field and in traffic.

Behind him, Bradley Terrell was waiting in the wings, as he looked for any kind of opening that Hopkins gave him. Bobbling in traffic on the seventh circuit, Hopkins would give up the lead before falling to third three laps later as Jake Morgan got by.

Continuing to battle in the Top-5, Hopkins would make a couple more admitted mistakes that saw him slip back to fifth, where he would go on to finish.

“Brian and his guys really put a strong car underneath me, and put us in a position to win,” Hopkins said. “I made a few mistakes, but we knew there would be a learning curve with only one previous non wing start. Again, thanks to him for a great opportunity and a fun night of racing.”

Hopkins would like to thank High Sierra Industries, ARP, ADCO, C&H Veteran Enterprises, Soares Motorsports, Brian Sperry Racing, Capitol ACE Hardware, El Dorado Disposal, Gary Morgan Graphics, Jake Morgan Racing, Johnson Motorsports, MD Builders, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Image Salon and Spa, PT Shocks, Tiner Hirst Enterprise, Kyle Johnson Racing, and Petersen Media for their support in 2019.

2019 BY THE NUMBERS- Starts-31, Wins-1, Top-5’s-5, Top 10’s-10

ON TAP- Hopkins schedule is wrapped up for now, but is still open to sneaking in any races that he can find opportunity for over the winter months.
