PETERSEN MEDIA- For the second weekend in a row, Shane Hopkins found himself within a lap of a podium finish. Last week a late flat hampered him, and this past Saturday night contact on the race’s final lap knocked him from second and left him wounded on the side of the track as he would be scored 12th.

“Yeah, you’re obviously mad and annoyed in the heat of the moment, but in the big picture we really have a fast racecar and are making some positive strides so that is something for us to be proud of for sure,” Hopkins said.

Timing the Moxie Mechanical/Morrison Concrete/TNT Powdercoat backed No. 97 entry in seventh quickest in qualifying time trials, the Cameron Park, CA product would finish third in his heat race and find himself in the Top-8 redraw for his feature event starting position.

Pulling the three, Hopkins would grid the field from the second row where he would battle the likes of Justyn Cox, and Andy Forsberg in the early goings of the 25-lapper on an immaculately prepared racing surface.

Slipping as far back as the sixth position, Hopkins would continue to grind as he would hang with the lead pack in a hard-nosed feature event. Getting back up into third late in the feature event, Hopkins would slip into second on the race’s 19th circuit.

Chasing after race leader, Andy Forsberg who had broken away from the field, Hopkins would take the white flag in second and looked to pick up a career best finish. Racing into turns one and two a pass attempt on Hopkins would go south and contact would damage Hopkins entry before finally coming to a stop in turns three and four.

With the leaders taking the checkered flag, Hopkins would not make it to the finish line and would be credited with a 12th place finish.

“It is a bummer for sure, but people are starting to notice our car and our team and we are getting faster each week and that is a testament to my guys who work on this thing and the partners that continue to support us,” Hopkins said. “We will be off this week to regroup, but we plan on coming back in two weeks just as strong as we have been.”

Hopkins and Moxie Motorsports would like to thank Moxie Mechanical, Morrison Concrete, TNT Powdercoat, LRB Ent., ADCO Driveline, C&H Veteran Enterprises, Soares Motorsports, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Capital Ace Hardware, Johnson Motorsports, American River Overhead, Americote Painting, Gary Morgan Graphics, and ART Enterprises for their support in 2018.
