Shawn Jones Shines at Gold Cup Opener with Hunt Series

Updated: Sep 13, 2022

(PETERSEN MEDIA-Chico, CA)- Running extremely well during the NorCal Posse Shootout over Labor Day Weekend, Shawn Jones was not to be denied at the opening night of Gold Cup on Wednesday night in Chico, CA as a strong showing saw him park the Pries Motorsports entry in victory lane.

Lining up on the pole of the 20-lap feature event on what was a 20-car invitational race, Jones jumped out to the lead and would set a torrid pace on the hooked up racing surface.

While action behind him led to a few stoppages, Jones would not let restarts hinder him as he hit his marks and mashed the throttle for 20-laps. With a big pay day up for grabs courtesy of added sponsorship from C&H Veteran Ent., Joe Hunt Magnetos, and Transport Products Unlimited, Jones’ Wedesnday night triumph was worth $2,000.00.

Up front it was all about Jones, behind him Daniel Whitley and Jarrett Soares continued their strong runs just as they did at Placerville over the previous weekend and the duo rounded out the podium.

With 20-cars checked in for the invitational event, a draw show was used, and heat races wins went to Brent Steck and Shane Hopkins. Both drivers took home $100 for their efforts courtesy of Dependable Crane.

Jake Morgan finished 10th and Eric Hopkins finished 20th, and they each took home $100 from BioRational Vector Control LLC.

The Hard Charger on Wednesday night was Eathon Lanfri and he was awarded $100 from Transport Products Unlimited for his charge in the feature.
