PETERSEN MEDIA: Stepping back from racing in 2019 to focus on Tiner Hirst Development, Steven Tiner is still sneaking a race in where he can, and that was the situation on Saturday night as he picked up a third place finish in the Viking Engineering backed No. 14 machine at Placerville Speedway.
“Really have to thank John Svensson and his team for the opportunity,” Steven Tiner said. “We are both busy, and just want to get to the track and have some fun and in our two races together it has been just that.”
The Elverta, CA driver kicked his night off well as he timed in 2nd fastest among the 29 cars that packed into the pit area on Kids Night.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, things got a little wild for Tiner as a car moved up on him as the field took the green and headed into turn one, and he took action and slid off the racing surface to avoid contact.
From the back of the pack, he would make a couple of crucial moves that got him back up to a fourth place finish, which was important as it locked him into the redraw.
Pulling the six pill, Tiner would have his work cut out for himself as he took the green flag from the third row.
A freshly groomed track took a few laps to slick back off and once that occurred Tiner was able to make a couple of moves as he got into third and began pressuring Andy Forsberg for the second position.
A restart with five to go saw Tiner make a couple of bids for the second position, but each pass attempt was negated. Running out of time, Tiner would settle for third giving him his second Top-5 of the season in the Svensson owned entry in their second start together.
“Last minute idea to come race, and it panned out,” Tiner said. “It is always a good time to race up at Placerville Speedway, and with John having some open dates it works out well for me and THE. Thanks to him and his guys, and can’t wait to do it again.”
2019 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-3, Wins-0, Top 5’s-2, Top 10’s-2
ON TAP: Tiner now shifts gears this weekend with Kyle Hirst and the Tiner Hirst Enterprise team reuniting with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour on June 29th at Placerville Speedway, and June 30th at Petaluma Speedway.
