PETERSEN MEDIA: Enduring a broken shock during Friday’s Silver Cup opener, Tanner Carrick came back on Saturday night and picked up a seventh-place finish during the 35-lap John Padjen Classic Silver Cup feature event.
“We continue to have speed in our 360ci car to open the season, but I put us in some bad spots on a track that was really tough to pass on,” Tanner Carrick said.
Carrick’s weekend kicked off on Friday night with 45 cars checked in despite a late afternoon shower that delayed the start of the program. Waiting it out, Carrick would get his night underway by timing his CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 83T machine in second fastest in his qualifying group.
Racing to the win in his heat race, Carrick would advance into the redraw where he would pull the seven pill and line up in the fourth row for the opening night feature event.
Despite the track being tough to pass on, Carrick was able to pick up a couple of positions early before enduring a broken front shock. Doing all he could with the suspension damage, Carrick would slowly drift back through the field as he would finish the opening night feature event back in the 15th position.
Back in competition on Saturday night, Carrick would get timed in fourth fastest and line up on the outside of the second row for his heat race. With the outside getting the jump, Carrick did what he needed to do and that was jump into second. Able to hold on to second when his heat race came to an end, the Lincoln, CA driver was not only locked into the feature event, but also the Dash.
By way of his sixth-place finish in the six-lap shootout, Carrick would grid the field from the sixth starting position. With the track still fast on Saturday night, passing would again be tough as Carrick ran inside the Top-10 for duration of the 35-lap affair.
Falling as far back to ninth at one point while enduring numerous double-file restarts, Carrick was able to work back up to seventh during the race’s final restart, which is where he would go on to finish.
“Not the best finish results wise, but the car feels good, and we have a ton of speed,” Carrick said. “Looking forward to getting to Tulare, CA this weekend and doing some double duty.”
