PETERSEN MEDIA- Fresh off of winning the Piston Cup at the Archerfield Speedway in Brisbane, AU, Kerry Madsen bested the World Series Sprint Cars two nights later as he captured the Australian Open again at the Archerfield Speedway.

“It was a fantastic weekend of racing for this Keneric Racing/American Racing team,” Kerry Madsen explained. “We ran very well in Brisbane and closed it out with another podium by way of a second place run at the Valvoline Raceway.”

On the heels of a second place run during the Friday night event in Brisbane, AU, Madsen gridded the field from the second row for the 50-lap feature event.

Just like the Piston Cup feature event, the Australian Open feature event went non-stop but on this night ‘The Mad Man’ would make his move much earlier aboard his American Racing/Keneric Racing No. 29 machine.

Chasing after the early leader, Brooke Tatnell, Madsen would make his race-winning move on lap four as he got around Tatnell and began setting the pace.

With Tatnell closing back in on Madsen during the final stages of the race, the ‘Mad Man’ was able to make a big time move around two lapped cars that would give him the breathing room he needed and he went on to score the popular win in front of a massive crowd.

Following the race, Madsen and company would make the long tow to the Valvoline Raceway in Sydney, AU to take part in the Peter Murphy Race.

Timing in fifth fastest, Madsen’s second place finish in his heat race would earn him a berth in the night’s pole shootout.

Starting the race on the pole, Madsen jumped out to an early lead as he set the pace over fellow World of Outlaw star, Brad Sweet. With this race also going non-stop, lapped traffic would become a factor and an admitted mistake by Madsen would allow Sweet to get by.

As Sweet got away, the battle for second between Madsen, James McFadden, and James Thompson was memorable.

When the checkered flew on the finale, Madsen came home with a second place finish.

“It was great to get another big win in Brisbane, AU during the Open,” Madsen added. “ I think we had a car good enough to win at Sydney, but I made a mistake in traffic. Overall it was  really strong showing for this American Racing/Kenerc Racing team, and I look forward to getting back to work this weekend.”

2016 BY THE NUMBERS- Starts-6, Wins-2, Top-5’s-4, Top 10’s-5

ON TAP: Kerry Madsen and company will be back at the Valvoline Raceway this coming weekend for the Scott Darley Challenge.
