PETERSEN MEDIA- Kicking the 2018 Sprint Car Challenge Tour season off on Saturday night at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, CA, Tony Gualda and the C&M Motorsports team would end the night with a 16th place finish.

“The finish wasn’t really what he had in mind, but there was some good things that came from Saturday night,” Tony Gualda said. “Cody worked hard all night, and the car felt really good it was just hard to make up ground in the feature.”

Checking in Placerville Speedway with 45 other entrants, Gualda kicked the 2018 SCCT season off by timing the Moorefield Construction, Inc./Hollister Auto Parts/PitStopUSA No. 7c machine in sixth quickest in his time trial group.

Lining up sixth in his heat race, Gualda would need to finish inside the Top-Five to transfer directly into the 35-lap feature event. On a hooked up and tricky Placerville Speedway surface, Gualda was able to take care of business as his fifth place finish put him in the 10th row of the ‘A’ Main.

With the track continuing to hold moisture and create a fast racing surface in the feature, passing would be at a premium as everyone laid down extremely quick laps.

From the 10th row, Gualda was able to find some openings aboard the PT Shocks/Swartz Diesel/51 Fifth Energy Drink entry as he worked his way up to 16th.

Continuing to push the limits of the C&M Motorsports machine, Gualda would continue to search for a way forward, but on this night it was not in the cards.

With the checkered flag in the air, Gualda would race under it bringing home a 16th place finish.

“It was hard to make up ground with how fast it was, and I didn’t want to do anything really daring and risk tearing up someone else or our stuff so I just focused on hitting my marks and running good laps,” Gualda added. “We will take it and look forward to the Placerville Speedway regular season points opener this weekd.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Moorefield Construction, Inc., Hollister Auto Parts, PitStopUSA, PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, 51 Fifty Energy Drink, Alturas Tires, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.

ON TAP: C&M Motorsports and Tony Gualda will be back in action on Saturday night in Placerville, CA as the track is set to open it’s weekly point season.

2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-3, Wins-0, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-1.
