Torgerson Impresses During Thunderbowl Raceway Debut

Updated: Oct 26, 2022

PETERSEN MEDIA- With an opening in his Micro Sprint schedule, Ashton Torgerson and his Torgerson Racing team made the decision to take part in the 28th Annual Trophy Cup in Tulare, CA and young Torgerson was impressive as he cut his first laps at the fame 1/3 mile oval.

Enduring engine issues early on during Thursday’s opener, Torgerson and company were able to make repairs and make the call for the Non-Qualifier in in the Rowdy Energy backed No. 02.

Lining up in the third row, Torgerson quickly adapted to the Thunderbowl as he banged the boards to perfection as he worked his way forward. Working his way into the lead, Torgerson picked up the win and kept his night going as he transferred into the ‘D’ Main.

From the fifth row in the ‘D’, Torgerson wasn’t about to slow up. Despite the competition getting a little tough in the 'D', the Medford, OR driver again was able to work his way forward as he battled into the fourth and final transfer position.

Essentially making a quick pit stop to add fuel and make adjustments, Torgerson continued on as he found himself 24th on the starting grid in the ‘C’ with just four transfer positions up for grabs.

Earning his stripes and getting upside down during the ‘C’, the damage was extremely limited and Torgerson was able restart from the tail as he ended the Trophy Cup opener 19th in the ‘C’.

Back in action on Friday night, Torgerson got off to a much better start to the night as he was able to make the call in time trials as he timed the Rowdy Energy backed mount in 20th fastest in his qualifying flight.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Torgerson found himself mixing it up with some of California’s best as he held his own and tallied a fourth-place finish.

Having enough points to qualify for the Friday night ‘B’, Torgerson lined up 12th as he chased after one of four tickets into the feature event. Running a very smart race from the sixth row, Torgerson opened up some eyes as he continued to race hard with some veteran drivers.

Finishing 10th in the ‘B’, Torgerson would take his Friday night points total into Saturday’s finale as he opened the night up by taking the green flag from the pole of the night’s first heat race.

Picking up the win, Torgerson earned max points in his heat and was 35th overall in points heading into feature events.

Torgerson’s points standing put him 25-lap ‘B’ where he took the green flag from the 15th starting position. Amidst a field that could make up a feature event on any given Saturday night around the state of CA, Torgerson continued to turn in solid laps on a tricky surface.

When the dust settled on the semi, Torgerson closed his first Trophy Cup out with a 19th place finish in the ‘B’.
