PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking part in the final Sprint Car event of the year at Placerville Speedway over the weekend, Andy Gregg would suffer a parts failure on Friday night before an early incident on Saturday caused him to withdraw from the event with extensive frame damage.

“It certainly was not the weekend we had hoped for with it being the last local show of the season,” Andy Gregg said. “I can make excuses for Saturday night’s wreck in hot laps, but at the end of the day it falls on my shoulders. I am embarrassed that I wrecked in hot laps, and hate it for my awesome partners, and my crew that works so hard for me every week.”

Friday night, Gregg got his night started off by timing the GUTS/Capitol ACE Hardware/Crane Inspection Agency backed No. 16x machine in fastest in his qualifying group.

Getting out of shape while battling for position in his heat race, the Diamond Springs, CA driver was able to hang on to finish fifth which moved him into the 30-lap feature event as well as the Dash based on his qualifying time.

Finishing eighth in the Dash, Gregg would take the green flag from the outside of the fourth row on a very slick surface that was offered up on Friday night.

Jumping into seventh when the race came to life, Gregg was battle hard inside the Top-10 against a very loaded field of cars. Slipping back to eighth on a double file restart, Gregg would get back up to seventh at the race’s halfway point.

In seventh and in a tight battle for a spot in the top five, Gregg’s night would get cut short as a steering bolt failure on the 24thlap forced Gregg to retire from the event six laps short of the finish.

Saturday night, Gregg would be involved in a wreck in warm ups that caused extensive damage to his car and forced him to pull out of the event.

“Friday we had a good car and I think we may have been able to get another couple of positions in the final laps, but luck wasn’t on our side,” Gregg added. “Again, I apologize to my guys and my partners for how Saturday night went and thank everyone for all of the support they provided to the GUTS Racing car in 2019.”

Andy would like to thank GUTS, Capitol ACE Hardware, Crane Inspection Agency, Sierra Ice, CTL Forest Management, Nail It Roofing, ARP Enterprises, Ervin Sales, Triple X, Wilwood, FK Shocks, FK Rod Ends, K&N,  King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Amerikote, Pony Express Service, Eagle Grit, and MF Inc. for their support in 2019.

ON TAP: Andy Gregg’s 2019 season in the GUTS Racing No. 16x has come to an end. Gregg still may get another race or two in with the BrownEagle Racing No. 01 machine, but is unsure at this time.

2019 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-14, Wins- 0, Top 5’s-5, Top 10’s-6
