Tough Trip to Placerville Speedway for Joel Myers Jr

PETERSEN MEDIA: Making his first two appearances of the season at Placerville Speedway on Friday and Saturday night at the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial, Joel Myer Jr fought some tough luck at the ¼ mile bullring as he now turns his attention to Sprint Car Challenge Tour action at Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night.

“It was a great to get back to Placerville Speedway and I had a lot of fun, but we just had some things not go our way and ended up with some rough finishes,” Joel Myers Jr said. “We were able to make our first 360ci start of the year on Friday night, and it was good to shake down a fresh engine.”

Timing the All About Fire Protection/Hi-Plains Building Division/DirtDudes Excavating backed No. 46jr in fifth fastest in his qualifying group, the Sebastopol, CA driver lined up fifth in his heat race.

Finishing sixth in the 10-lapper, Myers Jr just missed out on the transfer to the feature event and lined up on the front row of the night’s 15-lap ‘B’ Main.

Getting the jump in the semi, Myers Jr was out front and looked sporty on the ¼ mile bullring. Picking up the win, Myers Jr kept his Friday night alive as he punched his ticket into the 35-lap feature event but lined up in the 20th starting position.

On the slick surface, Myers Jr moved high and low around the Placerville Speedway but couldn’t get going as he raced in dense traffic. With the first half of the race going caution free, the leaders reached tail end of the field on the 12th lap and Myers did all he could to stay on the lead lap, but final fell back on lap 13.

Once he went a lap down, he made a couple more laps and ultimately made the decision to call it a night and head back to his trailer.

Putting the 410ci in on Saturday for the Bradway Memorial finale with KWS/NARC, Myers Jr kicked his night off by timing in 15th fastest in qualifying time trials.

Racing to a fifth-place finish in his heat race, Myers Jr moved into the 40-lap feature and took the green flag from the 19thstarting position.

Complaining of a engine stumble during the course of the night, Myers Jr noted he was able to make good speed getting in, but he lost all momentum center off as he battled a small stumble.

Doing what he could while running around the slick surface in traffic, Myers Jr ended up 20th officially.

“We just had some tough luck,’ Myers said. “Friday I felt good, we just really were unable to get going, and Saturday night I thought we had a good handle on the car and made a lot of speed but we battled a little bit of a stumble. The results weren’t what we wanted, but I am happy with how our car feels, and I know things will start to come our way.”
