Tough Weekend For Justyn Cox

PETERSEN MEDIA: In action on two occasions over the weekend, Justyn Cox would have a weekend he would quickly like to forget about. Making a mistake while dominating the first half of the Friday night feature event, Cox would endure damage during an early restart during Saturday’s Civil War event that would eliminate him from the duration of the race.

“It was a pretty rough weekend for our team results wise,” Cox said. “We were awesome on Friday night, but the driver made a mistake and on Saturday night some contact on a restart ended our night.”

Taking to the Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday night for an open competition 360ci event, Cox would open up his night by timing the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed no. 31c entry in sixth fastest.

Running third in his heat race, Cox would move into the redraw where the three pill would line him up in the second row of the 25-lap A main event. Running in the second spot as the race came to life, the Clarksburg, CA driver would get around Kirt Organ to take over command of the race.

Setting a dominant pace, Cox would be the driver to beat on this night as he continued to lead the way. On the 16th lap however, Cox would get up over the cushion in turns three and four and his machine would come to a stop off the racing surface and his hopes of winning at the speedway would be dashed. Credited with a 15th place finish, Cox and company would head to the Placerville Speedway for the 11th Annual Mark Forni Classic.

Checking in with the Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster on Saturday, Cox would get things started by timing in 19th fastest during qualifications. Finishing in the fifth and final transfer spot in his heat race, Cox would move into the feature event where he would take the green flag from the 15th starting position.

Running back in the 15th spot during the first part of the race, Cox would find himself in the 14th spot when the caution flew on the 10th lap. The ensuing restart would prove unkind to Cox as contact would knock him from the rest of the feature event.

“It was a really tough weekend for us, but even though it was tough our thoughts are with the Clauson family right now,” Cox said. “It is a really sad situation and we send them all of our best.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, LRB, Konnected, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, JRD Endeavors, VSR, ART, K&N Performance, Justice Brothers, Cheetah IV Racing, E-ST Garage, Worton Designs, Manzer Motorsports, Swimming Pool Perfections, and Tim’s Hot Rod Shop for their support in 2016!

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-35, Wins-1, Top 5’s-6, Top 10’s-15

ON TAP: Cox will return to the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night for another night of racing action.
