Up and Down Sprint Car Challenge Tour Double Header Weekend for Tony Gualda

PETERSEN MEDIA- Looking forward to a big two-day race with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour at Placerville Speedway over the weekend, Tony Gualda would have an up and down weekend that saw him finish 13th during Friday night’s feature event, and come up just short trying to run the alphabet on Saturday night.

“We were really fast both nights and that is a testament to Cody and all of the guys that help us out,” Tony Gualda said. “Friday night we were running well but fell back on a hectic restart, and Saturday night brake issues got us in our heat race and it put us in a pretty big hole the rest of the night, and we were so close to digging ourselves out of it.”

With 41 cars on hand Friday night, Gualda would lay down a great lap in time trials that saw him put the Moorefield Construction, Inc./Hollister Auto Parts/PitStopUSA backed No. 7c entry at the top of the speed charts.

A wild heat race would see him transfer to the feature event, and with his time trial effort would also make the Hollister, CA driver eligible for the Dash where a sixth place finish put him in the third row of the feature event.

Battling hard up front in the early portion of the preliminary night feature event, Gualda would have some bad luck on a restart that saw him take evasive action to avoid a disaster. In doing so he would slip back well outside the Top-10, and begin the charging process.

Able to make up a handful of spots in a short amount of time, Gualda would take the checkered flag in the 13th spot.

Saturday night the team returned to Placerville Speedway for the track’s final race of the season and would again time in well as he earned quick time honors in his time trial group.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Gualda would fight brake issues that made handling on his C&M Motorsports entry tough. Slipping back to 10th , Gualda was in a deep hole as he would find himself back in the ‘C’ Main.

Able to pass a couple of cars and transfer into the ‘B’, Gualda would again have his elbows up the semi, but being a bystander in a pair of accidents in this race, Gualda would end up finishing sixth, just two positions out of the ‘A’.

“It was tough on Saturday night to have such a good car and not make the show,” Gulada said. “We had some bad luck early, but we stayed positive and worked hard and almost pulled it off. Thanks to Cody, Mandi, and everyone that continues to support this team and myself.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Moorefield Construction, Inc., Hollister Auto Parts, PitStopUSA, PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, Alturas Tires, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.

ON TAP: Gualda and C&M Motorsports are will be in action on Friday and Saturday night at Silver Dollar Speedway.

2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-26, Wins-0, Top 5’s-7, Top 10’s-13.
