Willie Croft Fourth at Placerville Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting in two races over this past weekend, Colfax, CA driver Willie Croft picked up a seventh-place finish with the King of the West Series on Friday night in Tulare, CA before finishing fourth at Placerville Speedway on Saturday.

‘Friday night we king of fought some fuel pick up issues, but I think we got that sorted,” Croft said. “Saturday night, we had a really good car, but things just didn’t fall my way with cautions in the feature. We would get rolling and get into traffic and then a caution would fly and interrupt us.”

Checking in at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, Croft would flex his muscle early as he timed the Holey Smokes BBQ/Rudeen/Art’s Craft Beer Palace backed entry in fastest amongst the 29 cars checked into the pit area.

Simply needing to transfer out of his heat race to earn a spot in the redraw, Croft would do better than that as he would pick up the win and keep his strong night going.

Finding himself with the one pill, Croft would lead the field to green for the 25-lap feature event as he shared the front row with Tanner Carrick.

When the race came to life, Carrick would beat Croft into the first turn as ‘Double Down’ spun his tires and settled into the second spot. As Carrick set a strong pace early, Croft was patient and began to close in on the early leader as traffic came into play on the sixth lap.

Fighting through dense traffic on the tight confines of Placerville Speedway, Croft would pull up to Carrick’s rear bumper just before the race’s halfway point only to see the caution fly on the 13th lap.

Lining up in double file formation, Croft would slip back to third as he battled with the likes of Justyn Cox, Colby Johnson, and Andy Forsberg on the slick racing surface.

Again, closing in on the leaders as they battled in traffic, a late caution on the 23rd lap would halt Croft’s progress as the field would now line up in single file formation for the finale restart of the night.

Battling with Justyn Cox and Andy Forsberg over the final two laps, Croft would cap the night off with a fourth-place finish.

Friday night, Croft and company checked in at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA for a night of racing against the King of the West Tour.

On a very slick surface during qualifying time trials, Croft would time in fifth fastest and find himself in the second row of the second heat race. On a completely reworked Thunderbowl Raceway surface, the track would now have a ton of moisture and create lightning-fast speed.

Finishing fourth in his heat, Croft would narrowly miss out on having enough points for the Dash and would roll off the starting grid from the 11th starting position.

With the surface in better shape for the feature event, Croft would turn in a nice run through the Top-10, though he continued to fight engine issues for most of the night.

Able to work his way forward, Croft would close the night off with a seventh-place finish at the Thunderbowl Raceway.

“We fought issues all night in Tulare, CA, and figured out it was a fuel pick up problem,” Croft said. “Other than that, pretty pleased with the weekend and looking forward to our next outing.”
