PETERSEN MEDIA- As the King of the West schedule starts to ramp up as we get into the summer months, Willie Croft had a strong momentum building run on Saturday night in Petaluma, CA as he raced to a second-place finish.
“Saturday was a good night for our team,” Willie Croft said. “We have a big weekend coming up, so to get a second-place finish to kick things off is huge as we head towards Oregon and Washington.”
Timing the Holey Smokes BBQ/Rudeen/Amerikote backed No. 29 in seventh fastest in time trials, the Colfax, CA wheel man would pocket a second-place finish in heat race action.
Garnering a spot in the Dash, Croft would advance one position in the four-lap shootout as his second-place effort put him on the front row of the 30-lap ‘A’ alongside a red-hot Dominic Scelzi.
On a tricky surface, passing would prove to be at a premium during the 30-lap affair. While Croft was able to hound Sclezi much of the night as he searched for his first win of the season, getting by the leader was a whole new challenge.
Trying multiple lines to build momentum to make a pass, Croft would be unable to get by the Fresno, CA driver though he would keep his challengers at bay himself.
When the checkered flag flew, Croft would close the night out with a second place finish as he and his team now ready for a four-day trip into Oregon and Washington.
“I felt pretty good last week in Hanford, and Tulare, so to come out and put together a really solid night has me excited to get up to the Oregon and Washington this weekend,” Croft added. “I have had some success up there in the past and I am hoping we can be in contention each night.”
