Willie Croft Second at Vermeil Classic Opener

PETERSEN MEDIA- Resuming action with the King of the West Series over the Labor Day Weekend in Chico, CA for the Louie Vermeil Classic, Willie Croft would flex his muscle during Saturday’s opener as he ended up with a second-place finish, before a part failure on Sunday night ended his night prematurely.

“We had a ton of speed all weekend and that felt really good,” Willie Croft said. “After making a ton of mistakes in Stockton, I felt like I really limited those in Chico, but still have work to do on my end, but good to get on the podium and build up some momentum.”

Saturday night, Croft came out really strong against the King of the West Series as he opened ‘Louie’ weekend up by earning quick time honors aboard the Holey Smokes BBQ/Rudeen/Walker Filtration backed No. 29 machine.

Lining up fourth in his heat race, Croft would work his way to a second-place finish which would move him into the Sunnyvalley Bacon Dash where a fourth-place finish put him in the second row of the 30-lap feature

In a wild feature event that was chalk full of stoppages, Croft didn’t let it hinder him as he stayed with Dominic Scelzi every step of the way. While Scelzi led all 30-laps Croft kept him in his crosshairs all race long, despite his rhythm being interrupted by yellow and red flags.

Late in the race, Shane Golobic would pressure Croft for the second spot, but the Colfax, CA resident was having none of it and capped the opener with a runner up finish.

Looking for one spot better on Sunday during the finale, Croft would get things kicked off by timing in 7th fastest in qualifying time trials. Taking advantage of his front row starting position, Croft would race to a win in his heat race and earn a spot in the Dash.

Running third in the Dash, Croft would take the green flag from the second row as he would line up behind Justin Sanders and Colby Copeland.

Running well inside the Top-5, Croft would endure a bit of an issue a large chuck of mud got into his headers pulling the header back from the head, creating an exhaust leak.

Able to continue on, Croft’s bad luck wasn’t not over as a part failure in the front end would result in him spinning off the track on the 16th lap, and ending his night.

“We had a little bad luck, but it has been great getting back in the car and getting back into a groove,” Croft said. “I really have to thank everyone who helped all weekend long.”

Willie Croft Racing would like to thank Holey Smokes BBQ, Rudeen, Walker Performance Filtration, Art’s Craft Beer Palace, Amerikote, ButlerBuilt , SCI, Brown and Miller, FK Rod Ends, Factory Kahne, Schoenfeld, Team Simpson, Stilo, Smith Precision Products, Kaeding Performance, AL Drivelines, XYZ, Vortex Wings, DoTerra and GUTS for their support in 2021.
