Geoff Ensign Picks Up 8th and 13th Place Finishes at Louie Vermeil Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting the call from PHR Racing to pilot their non-wing car at the Louie Vermeil Classic, Sebastopol, CA driver Geoff Ensign jumped at the opportunity to race near his hometown where he scored eighth and 13thplace finishes.

“First and foremost, I want to thank Paul, Brian Cannon, and Andy Forsberg for thinking highly enough of me to give me a great opportunity to come home to CA and race at Calistoga Speedway,” Geoff Ensign said. “It was a tough weekend, but we made the best of it, and in the end it was a lot of fun.”

Getting the weekend kicked off on Saturday night, Ensign timed the PHR/Oroville Tax/Wilkie Masonry backed No. 92 in ninth fastest in qualifications before picking up a fourth-place finish in heat race competition.

Lining up ninth in the feature event, an extremely slick and abrasive surface made things tricky on the half mile, but Ensign was very good early in the race. Working his way up to fifth at one point, the ‘Human Highlight Reel’ was docked two spots as it was deemed he jumped a restart.

Back in seventh, he continued to battle as he raced with the likes of Kaleb Montgomery and Logan Calderwood. When the opening night feature ended, Ensign capped the night off by finishing in eighth.

Back in action on Sunday night for the Louie Vermeil Classic finale, Ensign went out early in time trials and ended up timing in 14th fastest amidst the 31 cars checked into the pit area.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Ensign was not to be denied as he kept eventual feature event winner Logan Seavey at bay. Picking up the win, Ensign locked into the feature event where he took the green flag from the 14th starting spot.

When the feature came to life, Ensign wasn’t quite able to get going forward as he tried a myriad of lines of a surface that was in much better shape on this night. Searching the middle, top, and bottom grooves, Ensign stayed in the 12-14th place battle for the duration of the race.

As the checkered flew, Ensign brought his weekend to a close with a 13th place finish.

“I really am thankful to have had the chance to take part in the reopening of Calistoga Speedway,” Ensign added. “The 92 team has really been building their entire program up and it was a pleasure to be a part of their team for the weekend. Extremely thankful, and hopefully I can do it again with them.”

Andy Forsberg and PHR Racing would like to thank Meridian Cameras, Pacific Highway Rentals, Oroville Tax, Wilkie Masonry, Western Traffic Supply, PitStopUSA, Red Line Oil, FK Rod Ends, Autism Awareness, Parking and Transportation Group, MCK, 1st Vanguard, Highway Specialty Co., and KBJ Catering for their continued support.
