Colby Copeland Comes Up Just Short of Super Dirt Cup Feature

PETERSEN MEDIA- Making the trip to Skagit Speedway with the C&M Motorsports team to take part in the Super Dirt Cup, Colby Copeland made a valiant effort in the Saturday night ‘B’, and just narrowly missed out on the final transfer position into the famed race’s feature event.

“Super Dirt Cup was a little frustrating for all of us,” Colby Copeland said. “Thankfully the C&M Motorsports guys kept working hard and we almost raced our way into the finale on Saturday night, but came up just one spot short.”

Running 410ci events with Tarlton Motorsports, Super Dirt Cup saw Copeland and C&M Motorsports make their 410ci debut together. The first two nights of the race saw them struggle to get their footing as they finished 14th and 17th in the Last Chance Showdown each night.

Sitting 39th in event points, Copeland rolled off in the ninth starting position of his heat race needing to finish at least eighth to make the “B” or inside the top-four to transfer into the ‘A’.

When the green flag flew Copeland was shot out of a cannon and was up into fifth as the field exited the second turn only to see the yellow flag flying and negating his progress.

The second start didn’t go as well for the Roseville, CA driver but he did avoid the ‘C’ Main by finishing eighth which placed him in the 15th starting spot in the ‘B’.

After a couple of tangles hindered the start of the ‘B’, Copeland had really good start to the semi, as he was up into ninth on the second lap, and then into eighth by the fourth lap.

Moving into the seventh position just before the race’s halfway point, Copeland continued to search around the speedway to find a way around Tyler Thompson who was in the sixth and final transfer spot.

Taking a couple shots at Thompson in the race’s final laps, Copeland was unable to break into the feature, as his trip concluded just one spot out of the Super Dirt Cup feature event.

“We definitely got better as the weekend moved on, and I think that we learned, and figured some stuff out that will help us have a better starting point the next time we get up to Skagit Speedway,” Copeland added. “I really want to thank Cody, Bobby, and John for their hard work, and all of our partners that made this possible.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank NOS Energy Drink, Lund Construction, Anrak, Sam Rhodes, MatriScope, Econo Lube-n-Tune, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, Adrian Blanco Jewelry, Kings Meats, American Paving Systems, PT Shocks, Creason Enterprises, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
