Colby Copeland Second in 2025 Trophy Cup Points with C&M Motorsports

PETERSEN MEDIA- C&M Motorsports made a bit of a last minute arrangement with Roseville, CA driver Colby Copeland to compete in the No. 7c at the Trophy Cup, and it proved to be a good move as the team flirted with the Friday night feature event win before finishing second overall in Trophy Cup points.

“Trophy Cup is such an awesome event in California, and I am really thankful that Cody and Mandi Geaney gave the opportunity to drive their car,” Colby Copeland said. “We unloaded extremely fast, and I would have loved nothing more than to give them the Trophy Cup championship but I am still really proud of what we did with it being our first time racing together.”

Having speed out of the gate, Copeland timed the Lund Construction/Anrak/NOS Energy Drink backed No. 7C in ninth fastest in time trials before he powered his way from sixth to second in heat race competition.

Sitting third in points after qualifying and heat races, Copeland lined up 10th in the feature event with the Top-12 being inverted on points. In a very wild feature event, the Roseville, CA driver was able to get up as high as eighth in the early goings of the feature event ultimately slipped back to finish 13th when the checkered flag flew.

Back in action on Friday night for a completely fresh points night, Copeland again got off to a fast start as he timed in ninth fastest once again and then went sixth to third in his heat race.

Sitting 12th in points after time trials and heats on Friday, Copeland was on the pole of the feature event and led the field to green for the $7500-to-win race. Getting the jump when the action came to life, Copeland looked very strong out front as he opened the gap over the likes of Cody Gardner who flanked him on the high banked bullring.

With Gardner sneaking by Copeland on the 10th lap, Copeland then found himself in battle for second with Bud Kaeding. Able to fend off Kaeding after a 5 lap battle, Copeland turned his attention back to Gardner and went to work on erasing his gap.

Looking like things my get interesting as he closed on him in the waning laps, the caution flew and put the leaders in clean air. The restart saw Copeland hold the second position, where he went on to finish, as he sat third in points heading into Saturday’s finale.

Lining up eighth in the third heat on Saturday Copeland was able to get a fifth place finish and that propelled him to second in points heading into the 50-lap feature event that was fully inverted on points and put him in the 23rd starting position.

Like many of the other top point earners starting in the back of the feature, it took Copeland a few laps to get going in very thick traffic.

Able to avoid a couple of wrecks in front of him, the action started to heat up around the halfway point of the race as the high point earners put themselves back into contention for the Trophy Cup and worked through the field.

Copeland was able to claw his way into the Top-10 and appeared to be in the driver’s seat to win the overall title, but behind him Joel Myes Jr was able to pick up a few positions late.

Controlling all he could, Copeland was able to work his way forward and into sixth when the race came to an end. Though it was a valiant charge through the field, Copeland came just short and finished second in points just three digits out of the top spot.

“It would have been really cool to finish the deal off, but still happy with the weekend we had,” Copeland added. “The team was super easy to work with and our pit area was a lot of fun. Thanks to Cody, Mandi, Bobby, Tony, and NOS Energy Drink for all of their support.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Lund Construction, Anrak, Sam Rhodes, MatriScope, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, Adrian Blanco Jewelry, Kings Meats, American Paving Systems, PT Shocks, Creason Enterprises, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
